If you look into it you will find the famine was chiefly due to Japanese raiding supply convoys, then secondarily due to decades (a century?) of British imperial policy concerning agriculture (e.g. pushing cash crops) leading up to the 1943 famine.
Churchill had nothing to do with it, but because he is a British icon he has become the target of attack for Indian nationalists. Also he said mean things about Indians one time.

Long story short: a lot of the rice eaten by Indians was grown in British Burma. Burma was invaded by the Japs, who also raided British shipping in the Indian ocean and Pacific. Commies take every opportunity they can to lie.
