They say this every year. If Russia really wanted take the eastern part of it, they would have already done that. But they're playing their game with the rebels/tourists there. Good way to keep Nato out of Ukraine. No europoor wants to be dragged into a shitty conflict

Nothing like this has happened before.

Russia has mobilized to a much larger scale and is trying to stage a false flag.

We'll work with Congress, making sure that we continue to provide security assistance that Ukraine needs, including lethal defensive weapons to defend against any Russian aggression.

Saying "Russia's really gonna do it this time" is just to provide justification to send Ukraine more arms and advisors.

I'm still pissed we didn't intervene as r-slurred as it would have been. I wanted to fight Russians instead of sand people for a change. Peer adversary conflict is the real deal, no holds barred. Solid chance I'd be dead from airburst artillery or a guided bomb though lol.

Calling Russia a peer at best is dubious. America has vastly superior conventional forces.

With the exception of China, it's as close to peer as any adversary nation. I agree about the disparity, but Russia certainly has a local advantage on the mass of forces they can quickly bring to the fight. US strength (especially in armor) in Europe is a shadow of what it was during the Cold War. DEFENDER Europe 20 brought a lot of the current limitations to light, and without REFORGER, bringing significant heavy equipment to Europe would take a costly amount of time. That said, Russia doesn't have the Warsaw Pact anymore, but most NATO allies also lack the munition stores to sustain a conventional war. I'm very confident in the ability of the US to seize control of the air. I'd bet a good deal of money that Russia's vaunted IADS would fail to live up to its claimed capabilities, and their aircraft and a2a weapons are significantly outclassed.

I mean if the question is can Russia push into the baltics, sure. But once America mobilized and responded Russia stands no chance of holding a single piece of land outside of nukes.

This isn't even getting into the massive losses they'd take from air strikes before the US even showed up.

Like I'm pretty sure even the Europeans could establish air superiority over Russia.

I only started thinking there was a good chance they'd invade in early Jan 2022, and even then I didn't bet on it. I also continually underestimated the Ukrainians up to the September counteroffensive. I went digging through my Reddit comments from Jan and Feb a couple days ago and had some laughs.

Blinken's remarks come as Biden officials have raised directly with the Kremlin that any increased threat to Ukraine has potential consequences.

Yeah it's gotta be a typo. Around $5bn looks right:

![](/images/164541234604.webp) Then again the USG shuffles money around like a motherlover, so they probably gave more than that through other means. Check out the US foreign assistance section.

So you're saying that Putin views the U.S. as whiny little :marseysheepdog: who will be unable to resist a Russian invasion even if we wanted to (and most U.S. voters don't)?

That's crazy! How could he get this wild idea? Was it our disastrous pullout from Afghanistan? The fact that China will support Russia to blunt the impact of our sanctions? That Russia has spent over a decade building up a strong internal economy so that they don't have to worry much about sanctions anymore? The fact that America is now such a divided nation where no matter what the president wants to do, half the voters will oppose it? What on earth could have given Putin this idea that he can just walk in, take whatever he wants, and we are basically powerless to prevent it?

At the rate that our leaders are failing us, I'm seriously considering running for office myself. It's just so frustrating seeing how our presidents surround themselves with pompous yes-men who have long strings of credentials and zero actual intelligence. And our leaders are so fricking gullible that they never see through the illusion of competence from these IYIs ("Intellectual Yet Idiots"). Honestly at this point having an axe murderer run through the State Department wildly decapitating people could only be an improvement considering the degree of incompetence it took to get to this point. It might raise their average intelligence level!

:marseysmoothbrain: :marseybackstab: :marseytombstone: :marseybigbrain:

Oh well, just another on the long list of things that our :marseyopossum: leaders will tell the media to censor so that people don't realize what weak and incompetent leadership we have. I suppose they'll tell the press that the sanctions they roll out are "the hardest sanctions ever" and we'll have a few months where "educated Reddit" pretends that "Surely Putin will have to abandon Ukraine, after all he is in mortal panic of our giga-sanctions!" The charade will go on for a few months before the voters realize that the sanctions aren't doing shit and are simply a way to reframe the situation so that our leaders can be seen to be doing something, anything, other than cowering like the :marseyexcited:-:marseytwerkinit: :marseysheepdog: that they are.

I'm sorry, did I give away the plot too soon? Somebody needs to tell me how I can use spoiler text on rdrama so that people who are invested in our media plotlines don't get angry with me for revealing the plotline before they've had a chance to experience it for themselves.
