>"It's remarkable that they keep flying, and that they've flown for 46-plus years."

What, it's not like they have a choice in the matter. They don't need to do anything to keep going.

Except for never running into an asteroid in the belt between mars and Jupiter, or passing close enough to any object large enough to pull it into orbit, or getting hit by a meteor/comet, or just crapping out.

It's a computer with about 32KB of total processing power that we hucked into space 50 years ago, and ever since we've been pretending that we're learning something from it. As silly as the whole thing is, it is at least somewhat impressive that the fricking this has kept working for so long.

It passed pluto in 1989, but won't exit the oort cloud for another 200 years. !starchads

Don't get me wrong, the Voyager probes are great feats of engineering but it's not like they were out there dodging asteroids for the past 45 years.

Two strangers, staring at the most distantly recorded image ever taken of their entire planet, both trying to make at least one tiny peepee or your mom joke. And both failing.

It would be much more impressive if they got it to stop flying
