It has a much further range compared to their orbital lasers. It also serves the added purposes of being able to monitor your internet history and also disrupt (((their))) ma's phone calls when she calls from Miami and asks why (((they're))) dating a shiksa. Voyager got disrupted, but to (((them))) it's a small price to pay.
