Boy Scouts of America is rebranding. Here's why they're now named Scouting America

The new name puts a focus on inclusivity. Krone told The Associated Press that they wanted a name going forward that made clear that all children and teens are “very, very welcome.”

He added that when people question why the organization needs a new name, he points to historically low membership numbers.

Like other organizations, the scouts lost members during the pandemic, when participation was difficult. The high point over the past decade was in 2018, when there were more than 2 million members. Currently, the organization serves just over 1 million young people, including more than 176,000 girls and teens. Membership peaked in 1972 at almost 5 million.

I'm an Eagle Scout with St George emblem and Pope Pius XII emblem and the degeneration of the boy scouts nationally has been awful to see, though regularly at work I give tours, hikes and ecology, botany and biology lessons to Boy Scout troops that come to our ranger station so they can earn a badge and it is great to see youth engaged in the outdoors.

I will say one thing for zoomers, zoomer scouts fricking love survival courses and overnight bush craft survival trips. I think it's because of them video games

I'm an Eagle Scout with Pope Pius XII also! My whole Boy Scouts career was really somber. I felt like I was getting in right before the end, that the good times were long gone. When I was SPL and doing my Eagle Scout project, it felt weird knowing that many of the guys I was leading & teaching wouldn't have a younger generation of their own to mentor.
