I think I'm just gonna get into brewing beer for the beer enjoyers in my life tbh the prices are insane. I have 0 taste for it personally but it feels criminal to have everyone drop that much regularly on a case of beer

Idk how everyone is affording vices I feel bad dropping $90 on linen or other hobby shit but that's literally nothing compared to my friends booze/weed/smokes budget

How much is a case of just regular, mass produced beer there? My preferred beer is $21 + tax, and I could spend less with other brands. If the minimum pricing is $1.25 now, are leafs really spending 30+ per case for anything that isn't utter dregs? :marseywtf2:

>$33.26 USD

Utterly bleak

I like how the leaf overlords are determined to make everything as terrible as possible while also pricing you all out of even the basest of coping mechanisms :marseyxd:

There are at least 2 leafs on here who regularly make their own booze, they can try to break our spirits but we'll just brew our own :marseybeefcake: :marseymoonshine:

God I forgot about buck-a-beer nights. They were around for maybe 2 years of my adult :marseyfellowkids: life and yet were still responsible for some of my best and worst memories.

Doug Ford campaigned on buck a beer in Ontario and one or two Loblaws carried No Name beers at $1/can but only for like 2 weeks :marseysal:

They very much do. I live in a country with them now and they are absolutely fantastic. Flour, sugar, oil, bananas, root crops, chicken, pork, and bread, eggs and a few other handfuls are all price controlled regardless of where you are shopping or the chain and it works incredibly well. The government buys large amounts of the staples at bulk discounts and sets the price grocery stores are allowed to sell at. You don't have to shop around to find the basics to keep you healthy at a good price - and they ensure everyone has access to nutritious food at a discount.

Last year there was a big kerfuffle over a price increase - see it was the first one in 18 years and the price of bread and pork both increased maybe 5%. It was a big deal and caused a lot of upset for people as their grocery bills had gone up a bit.

Why do you think it doesn't work? It's worked just fine in other countries for decades - and they produce a lot less food than Canada does.

This person refuses to say which magic country they live in, but according to their post history, they live in Cuba. What a paradise lmao.

It works well if you ignore everything other than the price of those specific items

lmao yes as soon as you look at lack of competition in the market (price controls prop up megacorps with scale), lack of market variety, a shrinking number of businesses importing products, businesses moving to the US where they'll get better prices, general availability of items, etc it's a total disaster.

Liberals always supports things like the milk cartels here in Canada. Which is a small group of very wealthy families who crush competition

They are taking failed ideas from Venezuela now

Price controls and expropriation of numerous farmlands and various industries are government policies along with a near-total freeze on any access to foreign currency at reasonable "official" exchange rates. These have resulted in severe shortages in Venezuela and steep price rises of all common goods, including food, water, household products, spare parts, cowtools and medical supplies; forcing many manufacturers to either cut production or close down, with many ultimately abandoning the country as has been the case with several technological firms and most automobile makers.
