They very much do. I live in a country with them now and they are absolutely fantastic. Flour, sugar, oil, bananas, root crops, chicken, pork, and bread, eggs and a few other handfuls are all price controlled regardless of where you are shopping or the chain and it works incredibly well. The government buys large amounts of the staples at bulk discounts and sets the price grocery stores are allowed to sell at. You don't have to shop around to find the basics to keep you healthy at a good price - and they ensure everyone has access to nutritious food at a discount.

Last year there was a big kerfuffle over a price increase - see it was the first one in 18 years and the price of bread and pork both increased maybe 5%. It was a big deal and caused a lot of upset for people as their grocery bills had gone up a bit.

Why do you think it doesn't work? It's worked just fine in other countries for decades - and they produce a lot less food than Canada does.

This person refuses to say which magic country they live in, but according to their post history, they live in Cuba. What a paradise lmao.

It works well if you ignore everything other than the price of those specific items

lmao yes as soon as you look at lack of competition in the market (price controls prop up megacorps with scale), lack of market variety, a shrinking number of businesses importing products, businesses moving to the US where they'll get better prices, general availability of items, etc it's a total disaster.

Liberals always supports things like the milk cartels here in Canada. Which is a small group of very wealthy families who crush competition
