Another capitalist W. Cuba goes into war time economy.

Another W for imperial powers. Communist Cuba peaked and is now sinking.

China couldn't save its communist ally.

Capitalism is a better system than communism any day.

That is how you know Russia will lose the war. They did not embrace capitalism well enough.

Every Cuban I've talked with online are complete doomers about Cuba. Feels bad man, it's such a beautiful country.

North America is under US control. South America next.

Cuba was under US Control for a couple years after we liberated them from the Spanish Dread Horde.

But the darned Teller Amendment prevented Cuba from becoming a United State like God intended.

Having Cuba as a state would be quite interesting alt-history...

...but then again, making them a state would be a rather daunting task, no? Because like, the government is then gonna have to spend millions or even billions of dollars in trying to Americanize a whole lot of people, not only in terms of teaching English or aligning their culture to fit that of the US (i.e. making them less Catholic and Latin and more Prot and Anglo), but then you're gonna have to update a huge freaking island towards mainland standards. New schools! Fixed roads! Transitioning towards American-style representative democracy from almost-feudalistic monarchism!

It was easy to do it with the Indians (they're not as numerous, and it's far more easy to dominate them militarily), but when you got a larger population (that is almost more capable of revolting)...I wouldn't be so sure. I mean, take Puerto Rico for example; they've been US property for over a century and they still are quite different culturally - and that's a smaller island with less people at that!

Again, I am not inherently against the idea of making new states...but the roadmap for doing so is quite complicated, and maybe not worth the hassle at all... :marseyshrug:

It was all downhill after we gave up on spelling it "Porto Rico."

This is pretty much what happened in the Philippines, with mixed results. It must have been pretty darn expensive because by the 1930s already there were plans to give them independence soon.

Yeah it'd be expensive, but owning all our former territories/occupations like Cuba, the Philippines, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Panama and arguably Haiti would be based.

Central America is a thing too. Also in Argentina (an actual South American country), Americans are called "yankees" in colloquial lingo.
