Dumb Whore with 400k Salary Gets Shitcanned Over Not Understanding How Company Cards Work

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2024/oct/17/meta-fires-staff-free-meal-vouchers-buy-household-goods

That included one unnamed worker on a $400,000 salary, who said they had used their meal credits to buy household goods and groceries such as toothpaste and tea.

On the anonymous messaging platform Blind, they wrote: "On days where I would not be eating at the office, like if my husband was cooking or if I was grabbing dinner with friends, I figured I ought not to waste the dinner credit."

DUMB WHOREEEEEEEEEEEEE

In other news, tons of Jeets are missing after recent tech layoffs. Costco was actually usable at lunch today :marseysaint:

The thing with these cards and allowances ALWAYS has been "keep your receipts". Chinese buffet won't be throwing flags (while they may sell other shit and ring it up as food). Supermarket or gas station however? Receipt better show food and nothing else. If anything this round of canning people rids the company of people who don't take things seriously. "This card is for food and we are generous. You bought non-food because of generous amount of free money, frick off." Perfect response.

You can actually ask for your receipt at restaurants to just have the total and not be itemized. I was sent to San Francisco in 2015 to work out some kinks :marseycoomer2: at a subsidiary company the place I was working for had just acquired. After a strenuous 3.5 hours of labor I went downtown to some sushi spot that had great reviews. I did buy and eat a few rolls and a bowl of miso but i got totally shitfaced drinking sake for the reat of the afternoon. I asked the waiter to just put the total price on the receipt. It didnt even raise any flags when I submitted an $80 receipt for lunch for one person. If it had my excuse was going to be this is the bay area and they want top dollar for the freshest sushi.

$80 for well reviewed sushi in bay area? Perfectly reasonable for a facebook person. WTF. Even without drinks. The person in question must have done some really creative accounting like "I didn't spend 10 days of company food, I buy appliance for $800".

You're right. The other issue is companies as large as Facebook use automated systems to look at receipts now. A human with that job may not have even read through the items bought, or just let it slide, but automated scanning system will flag everything that is noncompliant.

The expense system we use at my work runs on OpenAI which is wild, but fortunately they barely ask for receipts for anything
