That dip around COVID is much bigger for Bongland because that's also when Brexit took effect.
I remember at that time, the EU said "With this whole COVID. Thing, would you like to postpone the effective date of Article 50?"
And the government went "Nah."

No matter which side you're on, the sensible thing at the outset of COVID was to go for some kind of postponement. But this was same time Boris Johnson was shaking hands with COVID patients as if her was Princess Diana.

Don't particularly about the politicians, truth is there's more to life than raw economic growth and the EU's impact on COVID was hardly positive.

I mean in terms of an unserious incompetent government's bandwidth to deal with two major legislative and economic shocks at a time, it was a dumb decision not to take the EU up on the offer of a postponement.

The EU's only interest is furthering the EU. They'd happily offer a deferral every year until the end of time.
The bigger problem in my view was the sheer incompetence in government at home. The Tories deliberately fudged economic growth by permitting mass immigration following COVID, which gave them their "growth" stat for the election but stagnated GDP per capita and by extension our quality of life.
