That has nothing to do with support for NK in the South. For one thing, nobody had any idea what things were like up there because it was illegal to talk about. Your only information about NK would be from propaganda from both sides and they could just freely make up whatever they wanted to. It has its roots in regional animosities that date back long before communism and especially in butthurt young people in the 386 generation who wanted to rebel against their parents.

The left is defined by being at the very least soft on North Korea. This is the most basic fact of Korean politics. If you want really obvious evidence, notice how every leftoid government ever has tried to appease them or just straight up give them money.

No, that's a totally foreign issue to them. Immigration is mostly loser guys in rural villages getting mail-order brides from Vietnam. They have very strict controls over foreigners working there. "Left" and "right" in Korea, as I've said, is mostly determined by how you feel about NK. I don't want to exaggerate. For example, the left supports (psycho) organized labor more, the right is soft on crimes committed by chaebols. There are real issues but don't assume they always line up with your idea of the political spectrum. Like the current president's wife got trashed for not having kids. These DP b-words were ice cold. Talking about how there won't be any pitter patter of childrens' feet in the (equivalent of the White House), just cats' paws. And the last rightoid president also got that.
