Great show, well worth going if you can get tickets. No resellers allowed so tickets were affordable, and even though the band is getting up there (Robert Smith is 64 I think?), they played a solid 2.5 hours straight.

Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Wanz)

Not nearly as bad as I remembered. The intro was dogshit but overall I think if the song never got extremely popular and overplayed it'd be fondly remembered.

Starts off decent but after about a minute in you're waiting for the end. Then you realize it's 4:23 long.

Radioactive - Imagine Dragons

So horrifically overplayed that despite not having heard it in years I was sick of it after a good 20 seconds. People say this was "when Imagine Dragons was good" but this is pretty mediocre. Although I can see why people like it.

An overall miserable listening experience.

A great song that still holds up today. It being beaten by Thrift Shop is criminal. The 4 minute run time flew by.

Final Thoughts

Overall most of these songs are remembered poorly because they were so overplayed. While pretty bad on average, I don't think 2013 was much worse for pop music than any other year. My reviews towards the end might be a little low because my tolerance for mediocre music was rapidly dropping. But oh well.

If there's a better version of a song on this list that would change my review, please don't tell me. I don't care.

Beyoncé is officially back with her new song “Break My Soul”, and it’s already been declared a gay anthem for the ages.

The song, which serves as lead single off her upcoming album Renaissance, samples the classic house hit “Show Me Love” by Robin S. To the delight of queer people everywhere, it also samples Big Freedia’s “Explode”.

In classic Beyoncé fashion, the singer dropped the song hours earlier than expected on Tidal.

In “Break My Soul”, conveniently released during Pride Month, Beyoncé channels her inner Karl Marx when she sings: “Now, I just fell in love, and I just quit my job / I’m gonna find new drive, darn, they work me so darn hard / Work by nine, then off past five / And they work my nerves, that’s why I cannot sleep at night.”

Needless to say, fans are absolutely obsessed, overjoyed, and generally gagged by the new song – and pretty much everyone is ready to quit their jobs and join their local communist political party in Beyoncé’s honour.

Fans were overjoyed to have Beyoncé back in their lives, but many were quick to take to Twitter to beg the singer to drop a music video for “Break My Soul”.

Meanwhile, queer people rushed to social media to thank Beyoncé for giving them a personal Pride Month gift.

Others used the opportunity to call for Beyoncé and Lady Gaga to team up for a “Telephone” part two.

“Break My Soul” marks Beyoncé’s first original song since she released “Be Alive” in 2021, which was written for the film King Richard.

The singer is expected to release her hotly-anticipated seventh studio album Renaissance on 29 July.
