Lego inflation year over year has been utterly insane for my entire childhood, adolescence, and young adult life.

It was bad enough that I noticed the difference in piece counts for $20 sets between when I was 7 and when I was 10 (tbf that would've been around the time of the global financial crisis). I think nowadays a $20 set is like a single minifig and a couple dozen structure pieces, if that.

Unopened kits may have unironically worked as an inflation hedge.

When im buying legos with kiddos 100% of the time its mostly adults with no kids buying massive sets. Only the cheap 20-40 legos are kid marketed. Rest are for libertarian soys
