Personally I'm not a poorcel, but I think it's great to marry somebody with financial discipline, and being poor shouldn't stop people from having a fulfilling relationship. All other things being equal, I'd rather marry a trailer park b-word who is frugal and knows how to budget rather than a high-maintenance woman who comes from money but also spends it like water. My ex may have turned out to be a worthless cheating narcissist but one of the few good things I will say about her is that she had great financial discipline and it was something that I really admired about her. Credit where credit is due

Also, $110k in debt is very reasonable when you consider the price of your average mortgage in a big city. It all depends on where the debt originates from

Being poor is mentality

Being broke is fact

This poor is definitely not talking about 110k mortgage here

What makes you say that? Not being sarcastic: I'm genuinely curious

I mean I guess I could be wrong. People talk about mortgages differently.

They would have mentioned if it was student loans, real estate or a mortgage. They're talking about CC debt, possibly student loans from degree mills, upside car loans etc

That debt likely would have come after the marriage

Eh, not necessarily. She could have bought a condo for herself before meeting her boyfriend

Are you under the impression that trailer park hoes are in 100k+ of debt?

Because you're wrong in most cases.

you have to be solidly middle class for the banks to allow you to frick up that bad.

Dude, in Boston a three bedroom house within walking distance of the T costs half a million. Even if you had put down 80% (which is unheard of) you're gonna have $100k of debt. A person in that situation is actually really well off.

Like if a partner is $100k in debt because they got a college degree in Art History you should run as fast as you can, but if they're $100k in debt because they own property then they're actually doing pretty well for themselves. There's a huge difference between bad debt and good debt. I just don't think being $100k in debt is necessarily a bad thing when practically every urban homebuyer is in that situation

come the frick on man, how are you possibly this naive?

if it was a mortgage she'd say so because she'd be bringing both the mortgage and the asset (house) into the marriage

Not nearly as naive as OOP's husband.

You are not 100k in debt if you got 100k of debt and 100k in asset. :marseyhomofascist:

You're generally right. You're giving this redditor too much credit.

The post is under an hour though, if they answer some of the comments asking details about their debt and you're right I'll come apologize though king :marseykneel:

There's a lot of morons with 100k + in car + student + cc debt. You can be broke as shit and rack that up, especially when rates were low.
