“We live in the greater Seattle area and we both had nine to five jobs in the tech industry. We're both earning over $100k and as we started to earn more money we treated ourselves a lot more,” she admitted.

“A big reason we have decided to downgrade our lifestyle is because we didn't know where our money was going.”

There's no way they were only spending that much. That comes to ~$55k/year. Where did the rest of that over $200k (minus taxes) go?

I remember seeing a similar story a few years ago about a family like this who was crying poor. It turned out they were doing the responsible thing (investing the money, putting into retirement, etc.) and were just mad they couldn't be more frivolous. People in the comments were very bussyblasted :marseyxd:

By far the best one was the WSJ around 2009 when a powerful single female executive was complaining about barely scraping by with a $50,000/yr nanny and maxing out her 401k.

I recall one where a family was making $450k but they weren't saving anything and just being tards with their money.

I earn 550k/year, but ever since I started rolling over my post-tax earnings into my Mega Backdoor Roth IRA account at the beginning of each tax cut, my paychecks are only a few hundred every week - it's really a struggle to survive during the winter, a very vulnerable time of year. PG&E bills in Mission Bay are through the roof.

This but unironically. After I've invested most of my salary, I can barely scrimp together enough to buy cocaine.

I think they worst thing about tech bros and project manager queens is that they get paid large sums of money and just too r-slurred to do anything useful with it.

This fine American couple is saving the economy by being rampant consooomers, somebody has to buy all this garbage to keep businesses afloat. These people are why America is #1, r-slurred boomers and conservatives who save deserve to have their money inflated away for being anti American and anti innovation. :marseycosmopolitan:

Those number aren't adding up. I don't make 100k a year and don't have dual income, but my takehome pay in texas is more than theirs a month? how much tax are seattlecels paying. surely there is a few thousand more a month unaccounted for here

I grew up in a family with a net income of about 300k by the time I was an adult (started around 60k 20 years prior), but we lived like poor people for our lives. No subscriptions (piracy if we wanted), eating out meant taco bell/sweet tomatoes buffet/coupon hacks at Baja Fresh, meh cars, no phone service (we used Skype only for a long-butt time, and then stuff like Mint Mobile where its $15/month),etc etc. Only thing we spent more money on was a house because parents wanted to ensure good public schools & housing always has good ROI in the long-run.

Our family net worth by the time I was an adult was ~5-10 million dollars. My point is, if you don't have money it's pretty much guaranteed that it's your fault.

Mental health experts could probably study this thread. Congratulations patso. In a sub about autism full of autists you manage to be the most severely neurodivergent. This is truly mind-boggling. What's stranger is that you can't even slightly see how insane you are. You genuinely have some sort of mental disability to continue to engage.

You're fat too. But you also can't see that. Reverse body dysmorphia on top of the autism and of course r-sluration.
