!leafs why do you still live in Ontario? This man manages a restaurant in a small town and makes the net income of a $125k CAD earner. You have to live in Ontario because that's where the jobs are, right?

I've genuinely thought about flying to Mexico, throwing my passport away, and trying my luck at sneaking across the border.

Not the worst plan, but as a Canuck you can get a job in the Promised Land pretty reasonably with a TN visa.

Do burger employers actually look at those applications? I've heard its such a pain in the butt they don't bother.

Easier in some lines of work than others. Like imagine you're in software, they can pay you less than an American but you'll do much a better job than an Indian (and don't need the H-1B lottery which is much more of a hassle). It's also easier if you're already in the U.S., like let's say you get your Leaf company to transfer you to the US office on an L visa, then you'll be in a better spot to apply to other jobs.

Hmm, food for thought. I'm trying to get hired onto a multinational right now, might swing things that way if it works out.
