Hello, welcome to 'I see the poors are pretending to be big wallet gangstas again'
This hole exists as a safe space for refugees from the Facebook(MetaTM groups of the same name. Of which there have been several iterations. We mostly exist to poke fun at the state of living in poverty. While it oftentimes is unavoidable, we do aspire to not be meanspirited. Over the years we have co-opted the term 'Peak Poor' to being someone who exudes poverty, regardless of their actual net worth. Trump and Elon both exhibit the peak poor ethos from time to time while still being the top 0.000001%. You can do something peak poor and still be a good person or a generally adjusted one. We all have a bit of poor in us.
We basically fill a niche similar to fatpeoplehate with a bit less actual malice.
PeakPoor is shotgunning mountain dews at 5 years old.
PeakPoor is not people dying of poverty. While technically the greatest heights of poverty is succumbing to it this is not funny, and is a failure
of capitalism. We do not make fun of poverty to be mean spirited such as that.
Read the room, if it's punching down too hard or really digging into someone whos a sympathetic character it doesn't belong here. (basically READ THE ROOM)

Erm I'll have you know that I get severe crippling anxiety and CPTSD going to the self checkout at the grocery store. I can't cook because I was never taught in school how to do so. Doordash and Uber eats are a human right, just like my master's in medieval women's poetry from a small private liberal arts school.

Whatever brain wave state happens when consoomers is watching tiktok (or reels or shorts or rednote or whatever) I've noticed is highly correlated with pressing "the food button" on their phones. It's like the stimulation of watching "Infuriating & inflammatory workplace drama soap opera acted by entirely one 27 year old wearing six wigs part #1678" with intermittent random nonsense videos (cutting playdoh with scissors while an AI voice reads reddit posts) puts their active thoughts to sleep, and this is when they spend $30 on fricking subway

I'm torn on this though, especially when it comes to children. Seems like corps have too much of an advantage these days with labs and lasers and computer chips and chemicals, and I can sneer at whatever demographic's self control, but I'm still going to suffer the consequences of a significantly higher number of people being broke, unhealthy, and r-slurred.
Maybe my old genes are activating, but vidya games seem more and more insidious in particular.

Yeah I'd agree with your point on kids. The marketing is still the same as when I was a kid, but you didn't have screens and apps and the like. Back then If you wanted Sonic the hedgehog or Lucky Charms, you had to get mom to take you to the store and buy it. Now videogames are little casinos and you can tell Alexa to order you a bag of lucky charms marshmallows without that gatekeeping. There's certainly a role with parents taking responsibility, but I can't really speak to that. I don't have kids and I can't really judge parenting in this day and age. But if you're a 30 year old manchild who needs his loot boxes and onlyfans or a 30 year old womanchild going to Disney because fomo, I have zero sympathy. That's on you.

Cooking for a single person can be basically the same as cooking for five. You just divide it into smaller portions—to prepare each day if you like having it fresh, or to reheat if you want to cook once for several days. It shouldn't be any more expensive, indeed less because there will be less waste from knowing exactly what you want.
Besides, your free time doesn't have a wage equivalent unless you were actually going to spend it working instead.

Plus it's an actual skill and it's rewarding to do things yourself. The reason redditors are bitter and poor is because they pay for everything vs doing it themselves. Without the hard work, mental exercise, and satisfaction of learning how to work on your house and car, cook your own food, and bootstrap your hobbies, life is a meaningless pursuit of short term hedonism, and you are reduced to a soulless husk seething in the shadow of those richer than you

It isnt, because cook time isnt waged time as no one pays you to cook. Its girlmath not facts. What I do get out of cooking though is an extra 30 min early leave every day.
