I don't understand how these fricking idiots didn't pay most of it down during Covid when it was deferred.

I fricking hammered the remaining portion of my student loans and paid it off. And I'm a college dropout who never technically finished because I had the chance to start working my career at 21, yet these morons would be quick to call me the "idiot" for technically not having a degree.

Actually the correct way to do it was to put all of that money during deferment into treasury bonds and then make a big lump sum payment including the interest once it started back up

But yeah none of these people did any of that

A staggering number of these "highly educated" people we should apparently be grateful to have in society aren't even aware that overpaying loans is an option.

They've never even read their loan agreement, but it's super good for all of us that the guy who fulfilled your Amazon order has a masters in philosophy, somehow.

"Over half of the generation is now considering a skilled trade career path, like becoming an electrician or plumber." - Are they taking the next step to calculate how many are actually needed in a city. And what demand will be in the future. We are heading into a recession and the next shoe to drop is new construction which could last for years like it did after 08. There are only so many plumbers and electricians needed for general home repairs. In the nearest town to me of a population of 20,000 there are 4 plumbers and 2 electricians. Half a generation going into trades are in for a rude awakening.

So I have a good idea. I say we do student loan forgiveness. So they show up to the forgiveness center, step into the forgiveness pod, they enter in their loan information, confirm their identity, confirm they want their loans forgiven, and then as they drift off to sleep due to the lack of oxygen they see their balance drop to zero. I'm pretty sure it would save us money after the first 5-10 years
