Blunt knives are infinitely more safe for precision work, because A) You should never be using enough force on resin or plastic to make a difference B) You always want to cut towards a bracing finger or thumb for maximum control and C) Razor sharp blades can easily tilt and obliterate a chunk of resin or gouge where a mouldline is before you even realize it was tilted.

If you clamp your fingernails soon enough
and don't stress them for a few days they'll reattach. It took me a few tries to figure 
that one out
