Had a discussion about hiring practices because not enough people were getting through to the second interview. I'm not even supposed to be working but I found out HR screening personnel doesn't like that out applicants are completely fine with throwing lab animals in the biohazard bin. That's what I expect them to do and my useless PI would probably agree. They're animals, I would personally shoot them the second they are no longer useful.
Their job is to screen shit applicants, mine is to move it forward, not make personal decisions about worthless animals that are discarded quicker than a pencil.

We never used a gas chamber. Just local analgesic and then snap the neck. Mice and dogs were the best since you just needed to press down with your palm and the analgesic pretty much made them comatose

Our IRB was really strict. We had to put them to sleep with ketamine, then the gas chamber, and then snap their necks before throwing them out.

It's kind of an old practice and easier to do. When I had visit labs and do some work there, I just went for the nitrogen method, otherwise I'd just give lidocaine and snap the neck. We aren't under IRB control so it was mostly whatever is most convenient

s and then vaguely ask about science shit they truly don't understand beyond keywords on a checklist and just hope you speak confidently and are attractive.

Their science knowledge is piss poor. I applied to a lab technician job and she had no idea what a northern blot was even though we're running hundreds of them a week in our lab. Maybe know a bit about our lab if applicants have to go through you before they ever talk to the PI or myself.
