i live in WA, but my home country is bong, i have no real intention to go back - the wages are shit for devs, and i cant really do anything else
i just want to go to uk prison for life. i've got a tonne of books i need to read, the time it'd take possibly exceeds my life expecancy
ill have my cell, and my books, on good behavior i could even get a piano
it honestly sounds like bliss to me
no internet, which is annoying, but i'll make friends, offer my butt if i need to, and i think people will write to me
i know its stupid. can you guys tell me why it won't live up to my expectations?

bruhhh, fr I think programming leads to so much depression. fr not even being snarky, find a hobby or find something that makes you happy. Going to work every day, sitting on the internet all day, doing nothing but isolating is not healthy. Find something outside of computers to make you happy (well, unless maybe you are building them or making something).
So many depressed people on this site. This place is terrible for this. Get away from here until you find happiness. This place will drag you down.

I used to take my laptop out and work all the time. Patios, pubs, etc. It was great. Unfortunately now I'm jobmaxxing and in Zoom meeting heck at two companies, so it's a bit more difficult. I'm debating camperizing a van and doing working vacations in the new year.

The number one thing is I usually work through the meetings, since I'm rarely the guy who has to talk so as long as I'm in the meeting, I can do real work while some PHB tries to waste everyone's time. It gets tough when I have overlapping meetings but as long as the camera is off and I'm able to quickly respond if my name comes up, it's ok.

Probably very true. I have only been a dev outside of shit minimum wage jobs as a teen.
I had to get out of corporate very desperately, because I was seriously unhappy. Didn't want to go to jail, but understand the feeling of "what's the point" when all you do is spend 10 hours a day at some shit job. It's not really 9-5 anymore. It's 9-6 and then you have shitty rush hour traffic. Not a life.
