The first fighting between Texas and Mexico during the 1835 Texas Revolution was over a cannon that Texas militia refused to return to the Mexican army at a town called Gonzales. It's a purposeful reference to the Spartans at Thermopylae, and it's used as a pro-Second Amendment symbol representing telling the feds to frick off.
