Apocalypse Now was filmed in the Phillipines.
It was shot in the late seventies about four years after the Vietnamese Civil War ended. All the Burgers in the country had to be airlifted out from the roof of the Saigon US consulate in 1975: they literally had to run for their lives. Do you really think a bunch of Burgers could make a movie there just a few years later?

I was in Nha Trang about 10 years ago. Boy, that place has changed.
I'm not sure if it's still open for visitors, but check out Hon Do island. There is a temple there that is/was off the beaten track.
