Whether you do it through friendship, subterfuge, or outright war was up to you
Tthe US screwed and didn't stop the Soviets from putting nukes on Cuba. Eisenhower planned the Bay of Pigs invasion because he knew Cuba was vulnerable to Soviet influence, but the plan was flawed and didn't work when Kennedy gave it the green light. If it worked, we could have propped up a fascist dictatorship to prevent further Soviet attempts.
It is always morally better to prop up fascist dictatorships and brutally oppress nations than allow the Soviets to park nukes close to the US and start a nuclear war.
