Hitler lost to Hindenberg for the presidency, but his party obtained a plurality in parliament, so by default he was appointed Chancellor, then Hindenberg died and Hitler combined the two offices.
Technically the King of England can do this in reverse because the parliamentary vote is a meme and doesn't matter. The monarch uses Royal Prerogative to appoint the PM and the vote is merely a suggestion. Plus he can dissolve parliament for no reason at all.
