Total Turnstyle Jumper death returning to the House, expected to pass
Trump had to not only prove that immigration wins him elections in 2016 but that immigrants also win him elections in 2024 to finally pass a hardline immigration bill

if you're here illegally literally just don't commit crimes lmao

It's so obvious. Same goes w/ people here on green cards or visas tbh. If you're a foreign national you should really follow the rules.
It's not at all uncommon for otherwise minor crimes to torpedo your immigration efforts in other countries, it's not special if we do that here.

nobody ever pitched me on the fringe benefits of a lucrative life of crime if I took the citizenship test...
white extinction is long overdue but not as overdue as comprehensive immigration reform that burgers have been peepeeing around on for the last two decades

I knew someone who got stuck on green card for decade or two because he can't stop getting caught for DUI.
Some people just have poor self-control, that they can't even stay on good behavior until they are in the clear.
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
For comparison, if you have a DUI on your record, you are literally banned from Canada. Like you can't even go there as a tourist to travel.
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
Isn't it usually the case that you have to frick up multiple times or pretty severely to have an actual DUI on your record? I've heard there are like a million diversion and delayed prosecution programs.
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
Yeah they usually get pled down to a wet and reckless or reckless driving on the first offense, or there's diversion programs where you go to a shitload if classes and they get expunged but it's expensive. There are usually Vet courts that do the same for combat vets who frick up. Usually with a Judge that was in the military, too. One judge sentenced a vet to a night in jail for noncompliance and then showed up that night to spend the night with him since the guy had PTSD.
https://abc7chicago.com/judge-sentences-war-veteran-spends-the-night-in-jail/1304335/
You only get hit hard after multiple frickups or if you kill someone.
Still one of those things that's best not to do too much.

Oh, for sure, just pointing out that what Canada has banned is functionally a lot fewer people than "anyone caught with > 0.08 blood driving."

When I was younger, a close friend of mine was on a work visa for a ridiculously long time (like 10-12 years) just because of dumb lawyers making mistakes with his paperwork and the ordinary incompetence and glacial speed of the federal government. He used to drink and drive all the time. I kept warning him they were going to kick him out of the country if he got a DUI but he never got caught so who the frick knows.

IIRC that's just a tactic companies use to keep people on a leash. They could've got him a proper visa if they actually wanted to.

The lawyer for the place he worked was handling his green card app for a number of years, then he had to go outside the company and hire his own once he decided he didn't trust what the in-house guy was doing.

No it's not. Being in the US without status is not a crime otherwise criminal protections would kick in when they are detained, making it administrative rather than criminal is why they don't have automatic right to counsel and why they can be detained indefinitely without a hearing.

/unjerk but the problem is the rslurred US law system where a thousand things are illegal but under the disgression of the police and DAs to actually enforce it. There are even hundreds of city ordinances, or even state laws, that are blatantly unconstitutional but would require a challenge in a higher court system (e.g. the r-sluro state judge that convicted Trump)

But this isn't just people convicted of crimes, it's also for people arrested. I get that most people who are arrested probably did something wrong, but it just feels like we ought to actually make the government prove its case first.

Unironically fricking over the Dreamers would be monumentally unjust. Not only because they were brought to the US without their own choice, but because they have trusted ICE and provided their details to the government. So to repay that trust with deportation would extraordinarily r-slured by the US government.
I assume they will do it, because the DACA list is a big easy list of illegals to round up, as opposed to actual criminals who would be hard to find.

You mean anchor babies
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
anchor baby is a nickname for full and unconditional natural born United States citizens with parents that are not citizens. They can be President.
Dreamers are illegal immigrants that got brought over as very young children or babies, that need to go through an immigration process to become citizens. They can never be president.

Because I don't want a slot going to Ahmed, down the line, when it could have gone to someone that was raised in America instead
My line of thinking isn't "are immigrants wanted right now? ", it's "will you ever want immigrants again, for any reason, ever". And if the question to the latter is "yes ", they are worth more than Qatari billionaires

I forget about other countries but here our shops were legally forced into using the vax app scanner. Police roamed businesses to check for compliance, entire trucks spew cleaning supplies across the whole street at night, trying to 'eradicate' the virus lol (would be fun to be blasted with liters of cleaning supplies if you decided to exit your house on banned hours)
Eventually they decided to follow 'EU guidance' and ban us from all shops, even for grocerices. But mysteriously cancelled that rule the next day.
Anyway that's how I got radicalized. Funny it all happened because I saw the rona vax had headaches as a side effect and I was suffering migraines at the time so the main reason I didn't take it was i was worried about double headache problems.. for a virus I already had and got better in 2 days from
