On one hand I agree, it is nice seeing a politician pull through for once.

On the other hand, I suppose its easy to bring all your promises to fruition on day 1 if you're going to bypass the legislature via executive fiat :marseyshrug:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

The legislature has done this to themselves.

They can pass laws addressing this if they want. But they won't because they're lazy fricks.

Jump in the discussion.

Democracy is unironically over if you can't pass a simple law to prohibit X without packaging it with gorilliions of dollars to teachers unions, Israel, or Ukraine.

I understand the issues with line-item vetos and don't support them but I do think there should be some sort of limit on scope for bills from congress.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Vetos used to be way higher in the past when there was lots of small bills, now it's all line item and even that's rare. Trump only vetod 12 things during his last tenure. Omnibus bills used to be a bad word, but now it's the only thing they do. Lets you pack in random gibs hidden in thousand page bills

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

It's because the way the Senate works, they have to use reconciliation to sneak past the filibuster so they're only allowed to pass one bill per session or w/e, so they have to pack every single fricking thing in that bill.

It's because Congress can't work together enough even in their own party to pass shit without an incentive—like "sure I'll support your funding bill for NASA to build an Alcubierre drive if you support my bill to give Corn Farmers a gorillion dollars or for a Trans Socialist Hiring program at the US Mint"

The executive can't do anything to lower prices at all. The only way the government can lower prices is to change real market conditions by spending money, e.g. via subsidies, which needs action from Congress, not from the executive.

Inflation has been in it's target and historically normal range for nearly a year. Congress can only make inflation worse, it's not something you can legislate lower.

Jump in the discussion.

Well, it's hard to increase supply via legislation, but I'm sure there's things they could do to decrease demand.

Presidents don't pass legislation. It doesn't matter who is appointed as administrator of an agency if the agency doesn't have a legislative remit to act (or not act) based on le science.

Congress is too busy arguing about :marseytrain2:s to pass much actual legislation. The legislation they do pass is either a religious text or the result of deep political compromise not actually accomplishing useful policy goals in an efficious manner.
