Well, just a few years ago YouTube set all unlisted videos uploaded before 1 Jan 2017 to private, so at least they didn't de-jure delete it, but they did de-facto deleted the ones from dormant accounts, since only the uploader of the videos can watch them.

A few years ago I was collecting a playlist of "ancient undiscovered" videos
It included a grainy short video shot on a nokia with about 20 views that was footage of a group of buddies walking through a crowded mall that has since been bulldozed. They encounter the weird kids and walk faster on their way to gamehaven to look at game cubes, but the video ends before they reach their destination.

It used to reccomend good music, now it just reccomends the same 100 things in the categories I like, over and over.
I found a number of niche bands I like on youtube years ago, but it no longer recommends small stuff like that, not even if I watch other small stuff. Heck, it's actually hard to get to stuff of medium popularity. I don't want to listen to Of Mice and Men. I don't want to listen to Boum Boum Boum by Mika. I EXPECIALLY don't want to listen to AmaLee's English covers of anime songs. If I did want to listen to English covers of anime songs, it wouldn't be AmaLee.
It almost feels like youtube recommended is full of stuff someone manually whitelisted and then it gets brainworms about those things.
