A Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack and other unwanted security probes could conceivably be launched against a disclosed MAC address.

This is just a false statement and just leads me to believe that this article only exists because Grizzly is short on PDD.

The TEMU app even reads and stores the MAC address, which is a unique and global hardcoded network identifier of a device. This is a big No No in internet security. A Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack and other unwanted security probes could conceivably be launched against a disclosed MAC address.

Oh no no no :marseyemojirofl:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

That's literally the opposite of how it works. Precisely because MAC addresses are assigned by hardware manufacturers and are globally unique, you can only talk to something using its MAC on your local network. To route a request to another network you need to use IP addresses (Inter-net(work) Protocol) because those encode certain details of the network topology. Nobody could know how to route a request to some random MAC address.

Amazons search is so fricking bad and filled with wish tier garbage. The site is nearly unusable unless you know exactly what you're looking for. I only use them because everywhere else takes like a week of β€œshipping label created” before fedex swings by to drag your box down the street.

All kinds of data sources are useful when aggregated in enough numbers. Not to mention actually executing the demokkkrat wet dream of showing targeted political ads to rural chuds based on their browsing history.

This person is just r-slurred. You can install apps on your SD card in android therefore the app needs permission to write to the folder it's installed in. How do they think this is scarier than the permission in the list to install other apps?

Jump in the discussion.

:#marseyamericanpearlclutch:

No email address required.

ye and android does a decent job with containerizing an app's write directory if I'm not mistaken so an app can't write to a directory outside of its own Android/data/app folder unless you explicitly let it. On 13 at least it's even folder-specific, too, so any new directory will need another popup to ask for permission.

What I don't get is what they mean by Apple, iCloud, private relay.. Tf do clouds have anything to do with app storage and permissions

Jump in the discussion.

Some phones and android versions have slightly different methods and some apps just don't let you. In my old one you have to install to the main one and then the app settings just has a move to SD button.
