Intel's 13900 and 14900 cpus seem to be experiencing random failures unrelated to motherboards in actual datacenters where people know what they're doing and how to troubleshoot, not in some normal person's frankenstein of a computer. Intel's been putting out statements like the one mentioned in this article for a while, not sure if it's the same or another issue, but it seems to have massively undersold the scope and severity of the issue.

I put my 13700 into the motherboard and never updated my mobo because the popup it has demanding its software be installed gives me the ick :marseyindignant:

I had this on in the background and it is wild how many failures that datacenter was seeing.

Tl;dw the one datacenter was literally charging a $1000 premium for support on these CPUs because they appear to be fundamentally broken - Intel has refused to directly comment on these issue for like over a year now.

As to why a datacenter was running these consumer CPUs, these CPUs are top-of-the-line single core performance and this datacenter specializes in game server hosting which loves single core.

it really is bullshit tho, I had to drop my multiplier from like 55x to 53x because otherwise certain games would crash when loading (happened to Satisfactory)

Oh. Have the benchmarks finally come back as shit? :marseytroll:

Yeah the preformance per watt was super overexaggerated so they have bad single core preformance and throttle and power drain hard on higher workloads to the point is comparable with normal intel chips vs apple sillicon, they are not only worse then apple's m1 chips they also have awful integrated gpus, the systems are super buggy with tons of driver issues, the promised AI features dont work, there is limited app compatibility, the x86 emulation is way worse then Apple's, the dev kit microsoft sent out had the wrong chip and driver so many dev teams who tried to make apps compatible had them break on launch and the only to get the proper dev environment was to uh buy one of the retail units at a store :marseyxd: Basically everything which could go wrong did. Oh and linux does not work on most of the copilot plus line despite all of Qualcomms talk about ensuring linux compatibility (tho tbf that could be MS and manufacturer frickery)

Maybe the next gen will be better but who knows...

Anyway, IBM should 100% bring back POWER ISA :motherfucker:

The benchmarks are much better :marseysaulgoodman: than the original qualcomm ones they released a few years ago tbh

still a lot to be desired tho, AMD the king of mobile CPU/GPU rn
