A question that apparently doesn't get asked in Redmond enough: Why?
Anyone who has done a literal 5th grade programming class understands that there's the object and there's names for it. You can have multiple names for it. There is absolutely no possible reason to cockblock us who've been typing in "control panel" for literally 30 fricking years now except that you want your company to fail.
None of these fricking zoomer r-slurs have even heard of systems engineering because it isn't Beyonce's latest TikTok video about twerking her butt from 4 hours ago. Back in the day when adults were running things (because we weren't in this Logan's Run hellscape of children and mental children running society) companies would consider things like how much it costs to retrain the workers to use new software. Most people are not programmer sox-clad afficianados of whatever
gaytrans language is cool at the moment. They just want to be able to do some fricking data entry. This even includes every programmer above 30. Here's a flashback to a saner time:You're supposed to be trying to build a system with the human in mind because that's one of the most important parts of it.

People are pessimistic and think Microsoft will be around forever and will continue to torture us all, but the way I see it, companies that are healthy don't behave this way.
When a company declares war on its own customers, it's a signal that they will collapse imminently.
I don't care what the numbers say, I don't care what their market cap is or their financial statements, they must be in trouble if they're acting like this. There must be hidden debt or something. Accounting hijinx.
It's not like this is unprecedented. Everyone thought Enron was healthy before it suddenly imploded.
Yeah maybe I'm coping, but I really just don't believe that a successful company could act like this.

The head NPC in our IT department is coping so hard that win 11 is actually better than 10 it's laughable.
I'm yet to see a single positive change from win 10, while the UI has been annoyingly degraded on every possible level making my life worse. Yeserday I learned that it has a shitty printer automanagment turned by default, and I had to disable it on 20 diffrent accounts. What a waste of time.

That's my experience every single time I use the settings app. I'm not sure what it's for, maybe you could adjust the volume with it or something basic, but even then it probably has some crippling limitation like you can't tell which output you're changing, it's impressively worthless. How did MS manage to make linux distros seem easy to use
Jump in the discussion.

Best part is that all of this changes every year or even more often than that, meaning that every single guide online is worthless.
I don't know why they couldn't have just migrated all of the control panel functionality into the settings app. All of the functionality already exists, all that needs to be done is a basic user interface.
Jump in the discussion.

It is the same thing that I absolutely loathe about modern smartphone UI in general, and for some reason MS has decided that PC should follow suit.
It's an absolute r-slurification and gutting of functionality just for the sake of making the control panel look cool. God forbid there be more than 10 buttons on a screen, that might make the average lobotomite have to force out a thought.
There have been multiple times when I seethed so hard I almost cried because some trivial functionality was missing cause "We didn't think you would want to do that".
Now go and install that third party chinxslop to do the thing that was a basic feature in 2013

The fact that microsoft doesn't consider rebinding hotkeys to be a thing people would want to be able to do unironically makes me seethe so hard. I have to do some bullshit with powertoys that barely works.
I also love that when you click "uninstall app" on something from the search bar, instead of uninstalling it, it instead opens the "uninstall apps" menu where you can wait 20 seconds for it to fully load, then search for the app again, then uninstall.

"Creating eDiscovery archive for all mailboxes in sales department."
"No, Bingami, do not do that, we need a new Sales user who can -"

There's definitely a push to have everything online and future IT admins will do 90% of their work in a browser. Maybe low-level IT can be cut a little, but anything more complex will definitely need someone in-house. Going to be the same back and forth like with Indian dev teams

Maybe there's a reason why past me left this note to myself.
You cannot do anything with a database with OpenOffice. And if you don't have a relational database, why even live? I mean theoretically you can connect to it if you find like 8 fricking buttons hidden on taskbars and push them in exactly the right way and maybe it works for one second. I would literally rather cut my peepee with a knife because at least that would heal but doing anything serious with OpenOffice will never happen.

For apple, the macbook air already is. The 13" macbook "pro" with the unusable touch bar and a fan was discontinujed recently.
For non macs, I don't think they have the energy efficiency (or whatever it's called, I have no idea) that apple silicon chips have, so not having a fan would make it unusable over long periods of time.
I never realized until I got my 14" how great it would be to have a computer that never made any noise, never got hot, and never slowed down no matter how long it was used, and that you could charge at home and bring everywhere without a charger. Rare Apple W.
I don't think you could remove the fan from the 14", since at least some portion of the intended customers are video editors and the like, that would not be acceptable to them.

Normie devs (frontend and backend) use Macbooks cause it's based on Unix and unironically gives more customization options than Windows. It's a fair assumption to make if you're only familiar with IOS, which is pretty terrible in that regard, but this is an opinion that you'd only be able to hold if you've never used a mac before. Most things that I've wanted to do on macos have been doable from the settings app. I've pretty much never really felt compelled to do any kind of wizardry (anything requiring a google search), and when you do it's a single terminal command at most.
The only third party app I use for hotkeys and general productivity like that is rectangle, which lets you move windows around desktops and position them with keybinds. Sure, you can't customize your desktop environment in the same way you'd be able to do on linux, but you're never going to run into the microsoft problem of "why wont it let me do this thing that I very obviously should be able to do". Anytime Apple prevents you from doing something, it's only meant to prevent from doing something stupid. They're all intentionally very easy to circumvent by just holding alt, going into the settings, or running a terminal command.
Compared to windows where doing anything outside of microsoft's intended experience requires some bullshit third party app or changing the registry, it's not even close.
