i still don't get why they let me upgrade from a kms pirated win8 to legitimate win10 for free :marseyshrug:

Jump in the discussion.

They legitimately don't care about people pirating Windows. As long as OEMs and large companies pay they're happy.

I installed Win 10 on a vbox a few months ago and it was using 5-6 gb of ram at idle.

I don't even know how that is possible when Linux runs fine on 2gb of ram for most Desktop Environments even when using Chrome/Firefox with multiple tabs open.

Linux pretty aggressively caches files in memory

i don't use apt and i have never broke my system on an upgrade.

Caching applications isn't neccesary, no cache on my DE and almost all applications start in a fricking second at most. You prolly got a fricking shit computer.

I don't have ads anywhere in my W11 installation :marseyconfused: What the frick are you guys doing to get them?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

You have to opt out of it by default. It's annoying to have to configure a device you bought to be ad-free but the technologically illiterate are mad that they can't figure out how to improve their shit by googling.

https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/explorerpatcher.html

ExplorerPatcher is an Open Source portable executable that lets you customize the Windows 11 Start Menu, Taskbar, System Tray, File Explorer, and more.

Once you run the executable, you will see the classic Windows 10 style Start Menu in Windows 11. Right-click on the Taskbar, and click Properties to see the interface.

From download to installing it probably takes 60 seconds.

Microsoft still seem to have no idea why people are declining Windows 11. I expected an 8.1-style U-turn but they're still doubling down with each update.

Jump in the discussion.

Didn't they even declare Windows 10 would be the "last" windows and it would get rolling updates?

They have a bunch of r-slurs developing it simply so that they can have a new product to put out

They know exactly why no one wants to use it, but they don't need people to want it, they just need people to move

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Less than 50% and that's after 3 years of offering it for free. Considering that they've been forcing deceptive upgrade prompts, including hiding the "no" button, they're going to struggle to get much more uptake in the near future.

Bottom line is nobody is enthusiastic about it. It's the usual MS pattern of following good releases with dogshit.

A tv maker gets about $20 from Google to run their ads. That's a value starting point.

Ad money via content promotion (with fees) is worth way more than a once off $100 license fee
