tldr: Chrome Canary is the beta (lol) channel for Chrome. Google has been working on a trans(lol)ition toManifest v3 for a while, effectivly killing off many ad blockers or knee capping them severaly (like in IOS and Safari on MacOS). Well they flag to keep v2 (uBlock) enable has been taken away because papa Google knows best.
The removal of a custom settings flag previously used to enable deprecated Manifest V2 extensions (like most popular ad blockers) has begun turning out the lights on the user-friendly Chrome party
When the option to enable v2 gets removed from the normie channel is anyone's guess butt the c*m is on the wall at this point. uBlock has a lite version which isn't as good. I can tell you from exp using Safari on desktop that that kind of adblocker just sucks all around.
Also FurryFox is doing something similar so lmao
Get Brave
I would argue that if you want to be free from advertising, perhaps using a web browser created and distributed by the world's biggest advertising company Is not the wisest strategy.

CATASTROPHIC: Chinese hackers massively wiretapped 🇺🇸USA by compromising the interception portals mandated under US law.

This ought to be on the front page. It's huge, and a practical proof of the risks of giving the quote-unquote good guys the keys to our encryption.

This latest story WSJ archive link: https://archive.ph/y4JOI reveals that they were using mandated wiretaps/backdoors

Boycat is an adorable but serious mobile app and Chrome extension, used to scan products to determine whether they are under boycott.
Newscord is an app that uses artificial intelligence to analyze and expose the bias between different media sources to help people learn what is really happening and to develop critical reading skills.
We also have a bunch of exciting earlier-stage projects - I'm not supposed to have favorites so I'll just say that these are interesting:
Apricot - A non-profit tech studio and placement service dedicated to connecting US companies with highly skilled Palestinian Tech Talent, with amazing english, a convenient time zone, and a great price. Apricot can help you hire amazing engineers and tech workers remotely, or consult to run projects for you.
Find-a-Protest - Find protests near you easily, with a search engine that lists pro-Palestine protests near you.
Ethics.vc - The Institute of Ethical Venture Capital rates VC firms for complicity in crimes against humanity, an area where they are surprisingly active. These ratings can inform investors into VC funds, such as university endowments, pension funds, and can be especially useful for stakeholders who wish to hold them accountable.
Pal-Chat- Imagine ChatGPT that's not biased against Palestine! Pal-chat is a chatbot that is trained on accurate information about the history and present state of Palestine, including international treaties, important studies and research, that is specifically aimed at helping activists quickly research and respond to questions about Palestine. It even provides references!
A new and exciting project is Jaywalk, described as "Waze for protests". With Jaywalk, it becomes easy for advocates to share information about locations, dangers, aid services, and other dynamic needs protesters have in the field.

Apple fixes bug that let VoiceOver shout your passwords
Apple just fixed a duo of security bugs in iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1, one of which might cause users' saved passwords to be read aloud. It's hardly an ideal situation for the visually impaired. For those who rely on the accessibility features baked into their iGadgets, namely Apple's VoiceOver screen reader, now is a good time to apply the latest update.
In typical Apple fashion, the company hasn't released much in the way of details about the first security issue, tracked as CVE-2024-44204, which makes it tougher to understand the conditions under which this vulnerability could be triggered, or how to avoid it until the update is applied...
The disclosure of the bug comes less than a month after iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 debuted. Ironically, this release included Apple's first native password manager, the Passwords app.

Silver Lake and WP Engine's attacks on me and Automattic, while spurious, have been effective. It became clear a good chunk of my Automattic colleagues disagreed with me and our actions.
So we decided to design the most generous buy-out package possible, we called it an Alignment Offer: if you resigned before 20:00 UTC on Thursday, October 3, 2024, you would receive $30,000 or six months of salary, whichever is higher. But you'd lose access to Automattic that evening, and you wouldn't be eligible to boomerang (what we call re-hires). HR added some extra details to sweeten the deal; we wanted to make it as enticing as possible.
I've been asking people to vote with their wallet a lot recently, and this is another example!
And guess what? They left
159 people took the offer, 8.4% of the company, the other 91.6% gave up $126M of potential severance to stay! 63.5% were male. 53% were in the US. By division it impacted our Ecosystem / WordPress areas the most: 79.2% of the people who took it were in our Ecosystem businesses, compared to 18.2% from Cosmos (our apps like Pocket Casts, Day One, Tumblr, Cloudup). 18 people made over 200k/yr! 1 person started two days before the deadline. 4 people took it then changed their minds.
Earlier, his company did a bellicose post about the lawsuit:
Last night, WP Engine filed a baseless lawsuit against Automattic, Matt Mullenweg, and WordPress.org. Their complaint is flawed, start to finish. We vehemently deny WP Engine's allegations—which are gross mischaracterizations of reality—and reserve all of our rights. Automattic is confident in our legal position, and will vigorously litigate against this absurd filing, as well as pursue all remedies against WP Engine. Automattic has retained Neal Katyal, former Acting Solicitor General of the United States, and his firm Hogan Lovells, LLP, to represent us.
Neal has been adverse to Quinn Emanuel a number of times, and won every case.
Mr. Katyal stated:
I stayed up last night reading WP Engine's Complaint, trying to find any merit anywhere to it. The whole thing is meritless, and we look forward to the federal court's consideration of their lawsuit.
Our focus is and has always been protecting the integrity of WordPress and our mission to democratize publishing. From our earliest days, our highest priority has always been our customers. WP Engine can hardly say the same.

Intriguingly, as the date for the airing of the documentary has drawn near, a number of high-value wallets from the "Satoshi era" have become active for the first time since 2009.
According to Bitcoin Magazine, around 250 bitcoins — worth approximately $15 million at Thursday's bitcoin rate of $60,754 to the dollar — were drained from wallets in the past two weeks. While the coins are not officially linked to wallets used by Satoshi Nakamoto, they have been dormant since the earliest days of Bitcoin, when the cryptocurrency was worth almost nothing. The wallets' creators would certainly have been Satoshi's earliest collaborators.
