I think it's more likely that the aliens just don't care about us. Humans have this really cringe obsession with discovering aliens so we can seek their approval. Maybe they don't have the same need.

One trait that directly correlates to intelligence across the animal kingdom is curiosity. The reason is it enables learning. Any intelligent species will have it as well.

When you're the apex predator, you can afford to be more curious. That's what the dark forest proposes, is that the civilizations who realize they're probably not the apex predator of the universe and mind their own business. Those that don't, get taken out of they shout too loudly.

One of the reasons I liked Mass Effect was how it handled this concept, most aliens had reached the technology point of finding the relays and the only ones "uplifted" were kind of a mistake.
Is this show any good?

Netflix or CCP version? I dont have netflix and didn't watch it, probably wouldn't enjoy it because I hear it erases a lot of the source material.
On the other hand the CCP version is definitely rough around the edges, but with moments of brilliance.

What do you think about the theory that they only started showing up after we dropped the atomic bombs? Like, they saw that and were like oh shit look at what these r-slurs are doing, and they just come to check us out, kinda like we are a giant ant farm.
I think it's entirely possible

I think that isn't completely true. They have inordinate activity on nuke sites in the modern day, but have always been around. I can say more later.
I agree with Hawking we are fricking up.

Maybe but I think that comes more from this pervasive feeling right after ww2 that humans are hot shit now that we have atomic energy. Which turned out to not transform society as much as everyone expected, at least not so far.

The average person doesn't care about ants yet there are tens of thousands of human Entomologists
Any alien species capable of space travel would have to be curious about the physical world and that would definitely include humans, regardless of how cringe or based you perceive us monke as being.

There's one philosophical position on this that I've never seen expressed, and that is when you reach a technological level where you can sate all your desires, you just hermit up and stop doing things because you can just alter your mental state. You only do things to alter your mental state and sate desires, why not short circuit it, alter your brain directly, and just not interact with the physical world.
Or in other words, what if aliens are in their gooncaves?

If only 0.1% of all alien species has the desire (and the technology) to expand its Lebensraum indefinitely, such a species will take over all the nearby worlds of the 99.9% goon aliens nearby and keep doing so until the boundary of the volume under its own control touches the boundary of another such species' volume.
And if only 0.0001% of all advanced alien species want to expand, they will still end up controlling the 99.9999% goon alien worlds.

I fricking hate cringe scifi-poisoned philosophy losers trying to talk about space. No, there isn't some special dark forest. No, Drake's equation isn't real science. Space just isn't interesting, it's 99.9999999% empty void and the rest is rocks. Get over it.

In order to advance your species, you have to keep creating variants. Amongst those variants you'll naturally get a few defects (that is, alien schizos)
As technology advances, it becomes easier for a random individual to murder another of his species. You don't have to get close up and stab them with a spiky thing, you can just pull a lever and hit him with a piece of metal and so on.
As destructive power increases with the advance of technology, so does the alien schizo's ability to destroy.
At some point the ability to destroy worlds becomes easily obtainable and the alien schizo in a random rage attack kills everyone.
This is the Great Filter.

If there's aliens, they're so fricking far away they might as well not exists because human eyes will never see their world because by the time the light from their neck of the woods reaches us we or they will already be dead.

Speed of light is waaaayyyy too slow for any of that shit to matter. Interacting with other civilizations beyond the occasional one way broadcast just isn't worth the resources...
Maybe on the timescale of hundreds of millions of years some civilization would spread and sterilize the galaxy, but a) we'd see it happening and b) wouldn't be able to hide.
