The new, shorter version of Match of the Day which the BBC was forced to broadcast on Saturday night proved to be an unlikely ratings success, as curious viewers tuned in to see what was actually left of the programme.
The Premier League highlights show - which squashed six matches into 20 minutes, without commentary or punditry - attracted 500,000 more viewers compared to the previous week.
The BBC's Lizo Mzimba tweeted: "Last night's Match of the Day was watched by 2.58m TV viewers on BBC One.
"Up nearly half a million on last Saturday's figure of 2.09 million according to BARB overnights.
"It's the show's biggest audience since 5 November 2022 when 2.63m watched."
