Where do you go for football news, tables, stats, etc?

Hi, !football

Where do you read football news?

Reddit insists on The Athletic which idk looks okay, but it's wise to be sceptical about anything reddit recommends so I'm asking rdrama instead

ignore/actively avoid anything reddit suggests.

the athletic is trash. when they started out they were pretty good but didnt get enough subs so nowadays they post clickbait and talk about libtard shit that appeal to redditors.

i just use rsoccer for thread titles cos the comments are filled with tards, and follow traditional sports media companies on social media like skyfootball or even those independent ones like br football. You can get all the news pretty much just from headlines tbh. Then for more specific stuff just follow your club social media and every club also has one big fan account that always keeps up to date with the latest news.

I had my suspicions that reddit were so into that site for some political reason

yea its the same as the tifo football youtube channel which i think is partnered with the athletic since they shill it in every vid. When they first started out the vids were great and i really enjoyed them talking about football history, obscure stuff and current events but after years you can tell they struggled to find new things to talk about to maintain their upload schedule and the quality and video length dropped. They have another channel where they talk about game tactics and every rsoccertard just parrots shit from their vids to act smart. Pissed me off so much cos they were simping for maguire back when he had that abysmal season and redditors repeated their talking points acting like harry wasnt a problem :marseyraging:

anyway check out this concentrated copium after the bongs took another L at the euros :marseyxd:

Tifo football isn't that bad for the most part. It's just such a basic b-word, wikipedia or popular sentiment reciting over simple animated frames shit. YT is filled with these types of videos for every topic, especially history, Tifo is just a football version of that.

Now Tifo IRL is where the r-sluration happens, stats are fine but they're stat reciting strags with no understanding of their application in practice.

Fr bro omg the stats mfs. Especially on rsoccer with the 20% burger users always bringing up stats to back up their r-slurred takes as if this is basketball or burger football. x/G is the worst thing ever invented

For years on reddevils sub there was this one neurodivergent De Gea superhater that always posted some r-slurred stat analysis after every game just to shit on him. DDG could make like 5 saves and give us a win or draw and that mf would still come and say :marseyakshually: um actually ddg is the worst keeper in the top 5 euro leagues for expected shots stopped and converted to long throws to the left midfielder that resulted in a goal, and thats why he needs to go this summer" @X idk if you've seen him

Another stat that triggered me so hard was when they kept saying Maguire was elite in "progressive passes per 90". They literally kept spamming that in every maguire lowlight comment section like wtf hes a defender not a midfielder, doesnt matter how many passes he makes when his frickups lead to 1-2 goals lost per game. :marseyraging:

:brooks#cringe: Ok but De Gea is bad, his shot stopping isn't what it used to be and he'd keep giving away goals playing the way Ten Hag wanted him to. Both he and say Ramsdale suck at positioning, so while they pull off wondersaves ever so often, their stats don't reflect this because they shouldn't have been in a position to make a save that good in the first place.

Same with Maguire, being good on the ball at the back is important or you're gonna lose the ball to opposition press and concede goals (which BTW Maguire does!). This is the problem about them I'm talking about, Maguire racking up progressive passes because he finds a free fullback who then has no options for a pass is meaningless. But you can only see that by watching the matches.

They're shills. :marseyschizotwitch: They'll almost immediately get 30 updoots and when you click on their comment history all they talk about is supporting journos, getting boosted, and therapy.

General news: make a lurker account on Twitter and follow the guys that report on it. The beat writers will link to their articles. Usually biased homer takes but good info

For stats and stuff: pro football reference

Unless you mean the other kind of "football" :marseycringe: can't help with that. I'd assume the language barriers makes it harder to get news from local sources

Edit: you're talking about soccer. The equivalent site to pfr is called fbref. For American sports reddit is basically just Twitter links with a comment section and the athletic is trash

Fotmob app for scores and basic stats, has news and transfers too. You can also, obviously, follow specifically the leagues/clubs/players you want.

Sadly I don't have anything better than /r/soccer for goals, I'd like suggestions for that if anyone has any.

News is a combination of scrolling through titles on /r/soccer and Fotmob while taking a shit, I rarely ever read comments or articles, it's a worthless waste of time.

/r/soccer and /r/chelseafc (insert your team's sub here) for anything that could really concern me. Ignore the comments though and search by new. Then just fill up with basic b-word mainstream sports sites for any interesting happenings.

I visit my dad. He tells me about the NFL every day even though we're Irish and I'm a cute twink and I repeatedly say that I have no interest in sports and I don't understand how yank football even works. :boomer:
