Alabama is a better team than FSU. Alabama is the team that Michigan doesn't want to play. That is the better game to make.
Unfortunate for Florida State, but their losing their QB is the difference. Sure, you can talk about all the implications, but the matchup is simply better.

The whole "the team that wins all their games and their conference should be rewarded" argument, while indeed a darn good one...seems awfully contradicted once they talk about the Flames
