I only recently learned that rhodesia didn't even have a racially exclusive franchice let alone apartheid; it had a propertied franchise as many societies had not so many decades earlier, they were taking steps to increase black suffrage under that rubric, and britain sanctioned them and backed bloodthirsty commies due to their refusal to adopt universal suffrage immediately (after seeing what happened when other african countries did that).

idk, probably cold war logic with south africa being more strategic. and they did have nukes.

oh wait, I think it was because rhodesia was a rogue state that was never "legitimately" granted independence from britain and broke away on their own, while south africa got out from under them before the deadline and never had to deal with their woke era.
