The league postponed the Steelers at Bills game from tomorrow to Monday in the intrest of public safety, following New York's governor instituting a travel ban. 47 people died last winter in a blizzard in the Buffalo area.
So it should be easy to understand why 70,000 people driving to the stadium at the same time would have been catastrophic. But of course, that fact hasn't dawned on a large and loud minority of /r/nfl users.
For context, it's believed that this decision increases Buffalo's chances of winning because their offensive style is less compatible with snow and wind than Pittsburgh's is (and postponing the game means it will be played in relatively normal conditions instead of a blizzard).
Sorting this thread by controversial gets most of it:
Some highlights include users protesting the decision because of how it affects their bets on the game . . .
Users disappointed because they'll have to miss the first half hour of the game due to work . . .
So great. I'm not able to watch the game since I work 8-5. Excellent job NFL.
I'm sorry they didn't call you first.
Users seemingly hoping for a Union vs. Confederacy rematch:
Stop being a b-word . . . the way northerners talk I thought this would be a typical day for them
One user is having an existential crisis about the sport:
What happened to the game I love?
One user is particularly upset by the decision:
I hope they lose now, fricking soft butt baby city
Begging the government for help is way worse than Taylor Swift (???)
I was born in a blizzard, stop being a clown
One user has had enough:
Most of the complainers are, unsurpirsingly, Steelers fans or fans of Buffalo's rivals (mainly Patriots and Dolphins).
The Steelers subreddit is also taking the news poorly: https://www.reddit.com/r/steelers/comments/195sm8u/game\_postponed\_until\_monday/?sort=controversial

Context: Some foid accused footballer Jack Diamond of raping her. A jury of 9 women and 3 men took less than 15 minutes to clear him
Round 1
Before the verdict, the BBC put out a headline quoting the defence, upsetting Team #MeToo:
Why is the headline framing it as if this is a fact rather than simply the wording of his lawyer?
The use of quotation marks signifies that part of the headline is a quote, and not the news outlet's editorial opinion.
Why only choose the quote that automatically makes people believe he's innocent?
They don't only pick quotes that make him look innocent.
Case in point: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wear-67861047.amp
Round 2
Once the verdict was in, /r/soccer was very keen to discuss it. Team #MenToo quickly proved themselves illiterate as well, pointing to that other article the BBC put out last week.
Who were they quoting though? They might be quoting the judge for all we know.
Read the article and find out
We're talking about the impression given by a headline that was deliberately curated to give off such an impression.
I shouldn't have to read the article to find out that the impression the headline gives is false; that should be reflected in the chosen headline.

On my 4th or 6th imperial stout, so I apologize.
As a bears fan in Wisconsin, I get shit all the time. I literally had an old co worker, one who had been retired for two months, call my store up just so he could tell me the bears suck (which is admittedly hilarious, but still).
Just once. JUST FRICKING ONCE. Beat this fricking team. I don't care how you do it. Pay a rebellious marching band seven figures to storm the field every field goal attempt by the pack. Train pigeons to attack the quarterback (at least we would get a sack). Draft several million nano bots, enough to form the shape of a human. Develop teleportation devices. Sign Jesus as an undrafted free agent.
Take a dump in Matt LaFleur's coffee and give him typhoid. Tell the US government that there is oil under lambeau. Convince LaFleur to hold a practice over an Indian burial ground. Get the pack wasted, put on some Slayer, and throw a mosh pit. Drive a car into the practice facility. Throw stinkbombs into the locker room at halftime. Take a second dump in LaFleur's coffee.
Convince Love to join a cult. Make a rainbow in the sky and tell Eberflus where the pot of gold is right before kickoff. Remind Getsy that a football isn't actually in the shape of a foot before kickoff. Move the furniture around so neither Getsy or Eberflus can get to the field (since neither of them can obviously see shit). Sign Rodgers just so he can slap Getsy.
I just want to be able to talk shit. For once.
Why did the first NFL play I ever watched happen to be the opening kickoff of the ‘06 Super Bowl…………..
Utterly pathetic. If I only saw the 1st Bears game where we got destroyed by the Packers, to our final game where we again get destroyed by the Packers, it looks like zero progress has been made. Time for a brand new regime.
I have celiac disease and a host of food allergies that makes eating out a nightmare. Somehow, Bears fandom is still the worst thing my parents handed down to me.
4 wins in the last 31 tries.
The “Bears still suck chants”, I can't do this anymore. Justin is a great guy and tough as heck, but I don't think the Bears can win a Super Bowl with him. I want Poles to put his balls on the table and take Williams 1st Overall. Williams could easily be a huge bust, but what if he's the cocky butthole who is a Top 5 QB for the next 10+ years? Love is just going to get better from here and it's time to fight fire with fire. It's time to stop going the safe route and get uncomfortable imo. If we don't, I feel like it'll be the same old Bears getting dominated by Green Bay and their superior QB the next 10 years with maybe a couple of division round losses if we're lucky. Regardless of what he does, in Poles we trust.
Packers didn't punt once the entire game.
But this defense is elite right?

22 MAN ROSTER FOR MARIO FOOTBALL @TheGoodGuysCFB @SickosCommittee (used MS paint bc I'm a sicko)
— Ryan Plumer (@ryan_plumer_) January 6, 2024
EXPLANATION BELOW pic.twitter.com/YobraXxz85
His reasoning
OFFENSE:
Mario (QB) - Self explanatory.
Boo (RB) - Elusive, this is his best position.
Bullet Bill (TE) - Big body. Get open, catch the ball.
Waluigi (X WR) - Long, can catch the deep ball every time
Yoshi (Y WR) - Get open, catch the ball. Easy pick. Fast as frick
Bowser (LT) - Staple of the O Line.
Bowser Jr. (LG) - Can pull on some powers if he has the thing he rides in. Chemistry with the entire left side of the line.
Wario (C) - Loves when QB is under center.
Birdo (RG) - Bigger body, but not too big. Mobile.
Thwomp (RT) - Look at him
DEFENSE:
DK (DE) - Has thumbs on his feet. 'Nuf said.
Piranha Plant (DT) - Can't move, but can stuff anything up the middle.
Dry Bowser (DT) - Big body. Hopefully pulls doubles for Bobomb.
Bobomb (DE) - Just has to beat his man and gets the sack every time.
Toad (MLB + Playcaller) - Loves to talk. Big head. No confusion, takes up space in the middle.
Luigi (WLB) - Can def lay down some hits and has the reach to play in the middle.
Blooper (NCB) - Shifty. Won't allow many receptions.
Lakitu (CB1) - Flies around, can defend deep shots
Shy Guy (CB2) - Might be shy, but he'll have nice jams off the line.
Daisy (SS) - Can HIT. Makes sure secondary is where they're supposed to be (look at her point).
Rosalina (FS) - Lowkey star of the defense. Flies around and can use magic.
SPECIAL TEAMS
@SickosCommittee
hahaha yes!:
Toadette (P) - If you think she can't put it in a coffin, idk what to tell you.
Koopa (K) - Very reliable on PATs. Not a huge range though.
Yoshi (R) - Great vision, sure hands.
Hammer Bro (Gunner) - LOOK AT HIM COME ON THAT'S A GUNNER

Context: Joey Barton is former Newcastle/Manchester City player who went on to have a failed career as a manager. In 2022, his wife accused him of assaulting her, but later refused to assist the prosecution.
Last month, he took aim at women commentators for not understanding men's football (note: a DV charity promoted their Tweet under his )

Now he's got a bit more personal, comparing two female commentators to serial killers

The Great and Good of football were outraged. Headlines were made and ITV put out a statement on Twitter, but Joey has still come out swinging
