Context: Man City footballer Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty for raping 5 women back in January, with that jury failing to reach a verdict on two additional charges. Today, a new jury has cleared him of those as well.

Its most likely just poorly implemented and only works when you make the post. Regular pings may be the same way but Im too lazy to check.

Slack has this same bug! You can edit in a ping and act like the person ignored your very important message.
