Old Drama: Single mothers to mixed-race kids, how do you show your child to prospective men for the first time?

My mom once told me that she was interested in a black guy she worked with before I was born, but when she told her parents about him they basically said "if you date and marry this man, the child you have with him will never be accepted. They'll be too white for black people, and too black for whites." Needless to say I'm not mixed, thanks grandma and grandpa you were incredibly based.
