And yet, despite all of this, the Academy is showering the film with nominations. It's disheartening to see how -actual- Mexican films, with authenticity and cultural accuracy, don't receive this level of recognition. Instead, we get a film that diminishes the importance of language and cultural representation, all for the sake of style over substance. Imaging making an Italian language movie where Brad Pitt keeps his Italian in "Inglorious Basterds" not as a comedy but as a serious drama, that was this movie. A joke.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that black people are the only race.
Latinx don't care about being "Latinx," they care about national origin like being from Cuba (good) or Mexico (pejorative). The same for Asians. White people don't care about themselves. Indians generally don't care about racism as such, just tribal/reservation issues. It is only the black race in America which sees itself racially, even to the point they are surprised that other Africans often don't share the same view.

Well... yeah. Blacks in america are basically the only group whose cultural identity was formed out of a whole bunch of people stripped of their home and forced together solely on the basis of skin color in a system that afforded them none of the more common markers of unity like location or language or culture. It's hardly surprising that their emergent culture centered around their sole unifying trait.

That would make more sense, because in that way they form an ethnic group. But they don't do that—they look to Africa. They choose African and Islamic names and adopt completely unrelated people of African descent, like Barack Obama. It's tempered only by the fact that few Americans really care about any non-Americans.

That's hardly surprising, everybody everywhere tries to tie themselves to some larger, ancient entity. The Italians pretend they're Romans, the Greek think they're all Plato's cousins, half of America pretends to be Irish or German for a weekend every year, etc, etc.

The effect of the propaganda isn't to be convincing or reach some kind of quality where a sensible person would buy into it. It's to drown out all of the sensible alternatives to the point where you've never seen anything better and are also oblivious to that very fact.

I think a lot of this is that all of the white ethnic groups died out. There's no more Irish, Italians, Germans, Poles, Swedes, etc. That all died out in the late 20th Century. So you've got this big group of white tards who believe they're part of a "white race" and everyone else must be part of a big homogeneous race too.
And with asians because they don't give a shit. It's still, after all these rounds of intensive witch hunts about racism, culturally acceptable to just be totally indifferent to asians. "These characters come from Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines. Get me three asian actresses. I'll have them read for all three parts. They're pretty interchangeable."
