My now husband was 'apoltical' on a dating app. We are both in the middle but I definitely lean more left and him right. It actually balances out pretty good because it's comforting hearing diffierent perspectives. Like straight up therapeutic. I can't imagine being surrounded with people who think just like me. Living in a red state has been awesome.

I'm not baby chupacabra but I think that what baby chupcabra is referring to is that a lot of supposedly liberal/left men are still pretty regressive in their attitudes toward women and these men feel that women should "put out" quickly and not have too many expectations for a relationship.

Dating as a liberal man in a red state is also weird. At the end of dinner with a girl, she didn't do the check dance. I made a joke about it, and she straight up said she wasn't a feminist and didn't believe that women should need to pay for things when the man can provide for her. I don't get how women can have these views that demean themselves and hurt their own lifestyle

People are more than their political alignments, especially today this sort of attitude just adds to the already spreading divide. Everyone should be more accepting to the other sides view and not just jump down their throats for whatever their view is. If you don't want to date someone who doesn't agree with you politically that's fine, but maybe don't use that as your vetting process. The rule of thumb I learned was you never talk Religion, Politics, or Art at the dinner table. We need to get back to that and back to having decent conversations with the opposing views.

Both side are equally at fault for this don't get me wrong but as someone who is staunchly independent and agree with talking points from both sides. It's ridiculous to see how everyone argues like they're 5th graders playing dodgeball. Not to mention the blatant corruption of our politicians who on both side haven't spoken for the people in a good 3 decades.

Good luck dating if you base a large portion of you personality on one side or the other, because that tends to tell people you aren't even willing to talk about it.

I actually agree with the first guy. Of course there are extremes on the right/conservative, but moderate Republicans or fiscal conservatives aren't these evil beings you should avoid or paint as evil.

Yes, the political landscape was completely different in our grandparents' time but Republicans and Democrats still had opposing views.

The same goes for apolitical people. Times are disastrous and depressing and anxiety riddled and maybe some people can't mentally or physically handle the state of all this. -30f from the bay area.

I'm a liberal dude in a red state, thinking of getting back onto the apps soon. I'm a bit wary of signaling my views because I'm worried some women won't match because of them or because they'll think it's all I'm about. I also think if a conservative woman got to know me she might just reconsider her opinion of liberal people, but that's probably just my ego. That said, the men in her life probably don't set the bar very high and that's what leads me to think it could happen. Be interested in any feedback. To be clear I am aware that I am not gods gift to women, I'm just a flawed dude who tries to treat everyone with kindness until they demonstrate to me they don't deserve it anymore.

I appreciate you putting this out there. I'm in a red state and met my now husband on a dating app right after the orange one won in 2016. We both put that we were liberal but the firs time we talked on the phone we confirmed that neither of us was on the dRumph truck. It's hard out there.

i live in the capital of California and every white man i talked to in a 2 years span (except the man i'm with right now, love him) were some type racist, homophobe, transphobe, sexist, or all of the above. it's a problem everywhere, i hope this makes you feel less alone

The "not political" and not having politics listed is an automatic decline from me, too. It means you're a conservative and thus looking to actively take my rights away. They can frick right off.

honestly i find it silly to engage in politic talk , because simply this everyone opinion may differ how we view the world around , no two eyes will alway see the same thing. The only time i will engage in the talk , is if we present facts and see which policy matches our desire in living the remaining time on the planet ... but i dont need to be constantly talking about it and have it be main source of talking point.

I rather just talk about games , technology improvement or just talk about garden , how to update our living situation , new gadget ... perhaps just going to places to view as a tourist. Maybe resturant we havent been to yet. Stuff like that.
