PSA: Two card combos are a natural thing in this game and it's what Wizards wants

https://old.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/1gslslc/psa_two_card_combos_are_a_natural_thing_in_this/

Everyone knows [[Thassa's Oracle]] and [[Demonic Consultation]].

But there's also stuff like [[Sanguine Bond]] and [[Exquisite Blood]] or their creature version with [[Enduring Tenacity]] / [[Marauding Blight-Priest]] and [[Bloodthirsty Conqueror]] - in standard nonetheless.

Last night after I won a game with my new [[Aphelia]] deck by using her ability after I dropped a [[Bloodletter of Aclazotz]] I was accused of an "unfair two card combo" which sparked a discussion about combos in general.

I'm in the camp tjat combos are good, combos are needed and it's better to have a game ending combos than to drag out a game - after a pregame discussion of the power level of course.

I just feel a lot of people seem to fond it fair if you win via combat damage. Even if a [[Finale of Devastation]] tutored a [[Craterhoof]] which is arguably a two card Combo.

What do you guys think?

Clearly wotc is printing ever stronger cards and we will only see an increase in combo possibilities

/u/Head-Ambition-5060 this has to be one of the dumbest comparisons I have ever seen. Thassa's Oracle is an unhealthy outlier in terms of two card combos. These other combos mentioned cost ridiculous amounts of mana and need significantly more setup. Sanguine Bond/Exquisite Blood is 10 total mana, Enduring/Conquerer is 9 mana, and Finale + Craterhoof would cost 10 mana IF AND ONLY IF you don't need the extra combat buff from X on Finale being over 10 (in which case, you would need 12 mana). This is on top of the fact that the first two require an additional life gain/loss trigger to start and Craterhoof win requires having enough creatures as well as a combat step that you can swing out with.

I don't care what Wizard wants. They printed $1000 proxy packs, Fortnite Secret Lair, SL Ultimate Edition, Dockside extortionist, homoerotic bearscape, companions, etc etc etc. They send pinkertons to intimidate their own clients when WotC itself screws up an order. They hire contractors like SweetBaby Inc to threaten and harass community organizers like the commander RC to scare them into yielding their organic, grassroots authority to Wizards. Then they scold the community - their customers - like a disappointed parent reprimanding a rambunctious toddler, to cover their own butt.

Sweetbaby Inc. mentioned :marseysoypoint:

Homoerotic Bearscape, for those who may have missed it:

comment section here is very weird lmao. my take on it is simple, tho. combos are fun. if people are upset about it, then they probably want a diff experience at the table. i guess the rule 0 talk happens, but eh. you play to win.

Some people are just of the opinion that edh is the ine gane where ypu don't try to win

-19 and counting, :marseytheyhaterhermessage:

Unfortunately not finding much else. Will keep looking though, but the post was so r-slurred I thought I would find some gold in the comments.

Yeah, I went into the thread hoping there was some good combocel v combatchad action with how idiotic the OP was but for some reason they're all cucked and there's very little fighting. Very disappointing thread overall because there is plenty of division in the EDH community, they're just not vocal in there. Browsed around for some more entertaining ones on /r/EDH and /r/freemagic but no hits yet. I probably just have to be patient for when the rules committee does something mind numbingly stupid again.

Pride Across the Multiverse is a celebration of the LGBTQIA2+ community's relentless creativity. The cards in this drop draw from many diverse experiences, and it is our hope that people find some part of their own unique selves reflected in these cards. 50% of each Pride Across the Multiverse purchase will be donated directly to the Trevor Project

That isnt a "pride about your identity" thing though. :tayhuh: Being gay is an identity. Being gay and preferring chubby hairy men is a sexual preference.

The equivalent would be if WotC printed a card showing off a white man hugging an asian woman because WMAF is a protected identity now

Depends on the game store and playgroup. I play competitively at tournaments that allow proxies (I am not spending $900+ on a Gaeas Cradle :marseypoor:) and with a playgroup that has a mutual agreement that we can proxy whatever we want.

Most MTG players don't have a consistent playgroup though, and in a lot of cases they're too socially inept to bring it up so a lot of people just buy the cards rather than have a short conversation or go against what the LGS enforces.
