I mean they arent wrong. 40k has catered to the diversity crowd to use it as a big bad shield to protect their (now) shitty game focused on fomo death cycles and overcomplicated rules bloat.

i don't know i only ever buy the books and games. I actually really hate the boardgame and find it aggressively boring

It used to be pretty fun, now its overcomplicated wombo combos akin to magic the gathering. The setting itself was a combination of previous scifi books (some being an outright ripoff) but it was kinda fun

I enjoy tabletop heresy, it feels like all of the parts of 40k they stopped pursuing like fluffy lists and fun rules not designed around tournament play.

I like that while you can build broken lists, people will just tell you to stop being a peepee and refuse to play you if you do. Even tournaments will say "thus list isn't appropriate" if you submit a WAACstrag skew list

Yeah ive heard that. My buddy plays knights and orks though so if we switched it would probably be horus heresy and 3rd edition

>six detachments per army with sox stratagems each a few of which blindside you

>you cant actually see any of these anywhere unless you buy a physical book and upload its code to a physical app.

the app and book are actually incomplete at launch and require several documents and faqs to understand units

>simple things like how many special weapons a guard squad can take covered in 4 asterisks making you watch youtube videos since its not written clearly either

>oh i got rerolls on rerolls for everything cause of x character in y unit with z stratagem (also the codex is wrong so i cant show you the rule)

>the core rulebook has been out 18 months and every phase has had major changes to it requiring its own massive faq with bigger rules changes from 3rd edition to 6th edition

>"just play with non sweaty tournament players" like there idnt some broken combo somewhere

Honestly its not really worth the effort anymore

I'm pretty sure certain units in 9th edition had access to more stratagems than whole detachments in 10th, is this your first edition? The main complaint of this edition is how dumbed down it is :marseywut3:

Everything you complained about, aside from the app (which is an improvement over previous FAQ distribution), is better this edition than any other before

>its an improvement to 9th

Heavily debatable now that every other month theres a new update. Heck GSC have had five updates since launch drastically changing their core rules.

>the app

Its constantly losing content with every codex release.

This isnt an improvement to 9th edition. This is a business model to humiliate anyone who actually plays the game

The funny thing is GW have just announced that all codices are becoming digital-only. So no printed rulebook, no way to reference it at the table.

That's nothing compared to the nightmare of just mustering your armylist in previous editions

The problem with all wargear being free means you straight up have worse options

I'm more talking about how detachments worked in 9th, where you had this convoluted system wherein you started with some random amount of command points and then bought detachments that had fixed types of units you could fill them out with

As a totally brand new player in 9th I couldn't even find in the rules the definition of what a detachment was, and I must've gone over the mustering your army section three times and never figured it out. It was profoundly fricking stupid.

I'm undecided on how I feel about free wargear. It was very fun in a giganerd way to theorycraft which weapons to take but it is kinda pointless when you can just take a different squad to get a different loadout.

>brand new player

Oh ive been playing for a while. 10th will turn into a completely different shitshow than 9th and everyone will get sick of it and the theyll announce 11th. Its just their business cycle. The making the game not a convulted mess is just not within their power

4e and 5e were very simple. No peepeeing around with stratagems and command points, no keywords, only 3 phases per turn, Universal Special Rules, fun clear plastic templates for flamethrowers and grenades, etc. (except fisticuffs required consulting that fricking strength vs toughness table :marseytom:, which was why you'd just play Space Marines so every roll was probably a 3+ or a 4+)
