I mean it's a total open world completely designed by the GM. ANY RPG can be your anti-capitalist wet dream, you just need to slap a few cosmetic changes onto any of the many existing story archtypes.

Most DMs lean heavily on established rules because players complain if they don't. Some of this is just neurodivergent bitching and whining but DM-created systems can often be horribly unbalanced. Any attempt to introduce completely new settings or rules means an evening of arguing about the game rather than playing it.

I get that, I've played some pretty good homebrew systems and I know I'm lucky for it, but you could take literally any existing system and use it to tell a suitable story about plucky adventurers standing up for the people and taking down The Man.

Unless you're just a pathetic poser who need not only a pre-package story module but also a system that's explicitly anti-cap like the majority of the cyberpunk genre

I've seen people get bitchy about people homebrewing the setting even though it was just using the P1E rule they already knew.

They're all newer players too, I think there is something about how modern ttrpgs pull people in.

I think there's a clear line between people who play tabletop because they enjoy it and those who play because they think it's cool.

I've had one terrible GM who insisted on inserting Star Wars into every setting and it gets really frustrating. Definitely one of those people who play because they think it's cool

DM created usually systems suck, DM created worlds are much easier to do. Too many people don't seem to get that they can take a good rule set and change the world up. Obviously, 5e is shit for a modern setting, but there are other systems with guns and modern cowtools that don't suck.

My DM would just say that he was running the game to be more representative of real life and not because he's tired of me bitching and moaning about him being r-slurred.

Like 90% of DND podcasts the BBEG are capitalists and thinly veiled criticisms of rightoidism.
