There is fundamental difference you people don't seem to understand about hero shooters and something like TF2. TF is 12v12, HeroShooters are almost always 5v5. This means that in TF2 it will always be a fight of skill between the teams, given they have an somewhat equal spread of all characters, whereas most hero shooters are more reliant on which line up of character you have in play, not a test of skill, but a test of the wallet.

Jump in the discussion.

Now you're saying the difference between a Hero Shooter and Class Shooter is team size.

Come on bro you're just r-slurred, pretend you were drunk and move on.

whereas most hero shooters are more reliant on which line up of character you have in play

In OW you can switch your hero whenever you die. You even get to keep some of your ult charge now. The game is literally designed around people swapping up heroes as needed during the game.

Yes Tempest, that's what I said, it's not focused around being good but rather switching characters to counter the opponents.

Not in casual play no, I can top frag with anything but medic pretty consistently :marseyboomer:

Comp was also pretty static when I played. Occasionally peopled swap to a sniper but it was the same team comp for most of the game. Not really rock paper scissors

Yes.

Strictly speaking, there's one (new) hero most seasons that you technically have to "unlock" (takes like 40 hours total playtime, just playing any game), or you can pay $10 to play them immediately. So there's a fairly soft P2W. But at the end of the season, you get the new hero regardless, so there's only ever one that you can be "locked out of".

None of them ever do anything interesting. Suicide squad is a great example. They all have guns? ???

The biggest difference between them is their movement abilities. Why is the big shark man not melee focused?

Even games like overwatch where everyone is a "superhero" involve 90% of the cast shooting each other.

Please do something genuinely interesting. I always thought something like R6 siege but the heroes are genuine heroes might be interesting. Each team would have a limited number of points to spend on hero select each round and you could just round robin the picking order so everyone gets a chance to pick someone expensive and frick the team over.

Like Iron Man for 8 points and leave the other team members sharing 12 points between each other. Make heroes like Punisher or Daredevil for 1 point. Give them a regular cop with a gun for 0 idk figure it out.

Then if a hero is unbalanced you could bump its point cost up. If a team is down 4-0 then dynamically unlock pity heroes like Ghost Rider who are OP for their cost.

Idk what the game mode would be but it would need a secondary objective beyond killing people.

I don't get why they got the actors from the movie in the game but then made king shark smart and able to use guns. I thought the entire point of inhuman characters is that they have completely different playstyles?

how not???

Jump in the discussion.

It's a class shooter, only 9 playable characters that have distinct differences and don't directly counter eachother too much. A hero shooter is something like Overwatch or Siege, which is essentially just advanced rock-paper-scissors, using heroes that have hyper-specific abilities, but they have like 30-50 of them. Or Valorant, where they release a new hero every few months, OP as frick, and then a new hero after that who directly counters the previous hero. Plain r-sluration. Class shooters are based on weapons, hero shooters on characters.

:marseyshrug: Atleast you can bhop in tf2, can't do shit in OW

Also this is just super Ignant, Heavy can equip so much different shit that completely changes his timings like the Shotgun, GRU, FoS or KGB.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I mean yeah OW is a shit game but not because there's magically some difference between the genre classifications or w/e ur coping about, it's just shit execution of the same concept that tf2 did a decade before it.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

:marseyshrug: It is a fundamentally different philosophy though, don't understand what's wrong with saying that. A class based shooter focuses on archetypes, a hero shooter focuses on specific kit at a time. This often leads to shit games, like valorant. Literally just Rock-Paper-Scissors with whatever new flavor of the month hero.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

A hero shooter is something like Overwatch

Class shooters are keyed on weapons, hero shooters on characters.

you complete and utter r-slur, the different OW heroes have entirely different guns like just like different TF2 classes, and Maybe youre trying to say that Valorant is a hero shooter and not a class shooter because your agent doesnt determine what gun you use??? Oh wait your r-slurred butt called it a hero shooter as well

seems like a completely meaningless distinction you pulled from your butt

omg! it sounds like your definition is games i like are class shooters but games i dont like are hero shooters because there is literally NO distinction between the two in your description

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

What are you even saying? None of the characters in tf2 have specific abilities, they have a selection of guns to select. In OW there is no variation within a hero, they must be played in one single specific way, blizz literally removed skill based things because noobs couldn't do it.

Agents in valorant, do actually determine what utility you get, you fricking mong.

Scout can double jump, spy can disguise, engi buildings, medic literally has an ultimate.

TF2 didn't have weapon selection for years. If OW gave people the ability to switch between two slightly different guns for each character would that suddenly make it a class-based shooter?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

No because the game of OW is based around making new characters:marseyfacepalm: That's why it's a HERO-shooter.

Compared to OW TF2 shit is mild, but it's all semantics. I do like CS or Quake more than TF in some respects. This is a dumb thing to get caught up on.

It's simply incredible.

>nooooo it's not a hero-based shooter because The Sniper... can choose from two different sniper rifles!!

:soycrytalking: @TranstoyerCarbine

It's especially funny because when TF2 just came out - aka the time it was at its best - each class only had a single set of weapons. Like you couldn't change them. All pyros used the same flamethrower, all medics had the same heal gun, it was literally just like OW except fewer heroes, and each hero had a much smaller set of abilities/guns to play with. I mean the balance wasn't nearly as atrocious as OW and it was certainly far more fun to play, but claiming it's not a hero shooter is really something else.

My only guess is he's an r-slured zoomer and has only played the game recently, after they added lootboxes and hats and other r-slurred shit to it to ruin it. But it's so fundamentally a hero shooter at its core, IIRC each gun is still locked to a SINGLE class, ie. a medic can't equip the pyro's flamethrower.
