It's a class shooter, only 9 playable characters that have distinct differences and don't directly counter eachother too much. A hero shooter is something like Overwatch or Siege, which is essentially just advanced rock-paper-scissors, using heroes that have hyper-specific abilities, but they have like 30-50 of them. Or Valorant, where they release a new hero every few months, OP as frick, and then a new hero after that who directly counters the previous hero. Plain r-sluration. Class shooters are based on weapons, hero shooters on characters.
Class shooters are keyed on weapons, hero shooters on characters.
you complete and utter r-slur, the different OW heroes have entirely different guns like just like different TF2 classes, and Maybe youre trying to say that Valorant is a hero shooter and not a class shooter because your agent doesnt determine what gun you use??? Oh wait your r-slurred butt called it a hero shooter as well
seems like a completely meaningless distinction you pulled from your butt
omg! it sounds like your definition is games i like are class shooters but games i dont like are hero shooters because there is literally NO distinction between the two in your description
sometimes the vidya-related takes on rdrama are seriously more r-slurred than the ones on reddit, and thats a really low bar
reminds me of another argument someone started about real time with pause games where a game that is in real time except you pause with spacebar wasnt a real time with pause game because... uhh... reasons!!! but its whatever
It's especially funny because when TF2 just came out - aka the time it was at its best - each class only had a single set of weapons. Like you couldn't change them. All pyros used the same flamethrower, all medics had the same heal gun, it was literally just like OW except fewer heroes, and each hero had a much smaller set of abilities/guns to play with. I mean the balance wasn't nearly as atrocious as OW and it was certainly far more fun to play, but claiming it's not a hero shooter is really something else.
My only guess is he's an r-slured zoomer and has only played the game recently, after they added lootboxes and hats and other r-slurred shit to it to ruin it. But it's so fundamentally a hero shooter at its core, IIRC each gun is still locked to a SINGLE class, ie. a medic can't equip the pyro's flamethrower.
What are you even saying? None of the characters in tf2 have specific abilities, they have a selection of guns to select. In OW there is no variation within a hero, they must be played in one single specific way, blizz literally removed skill based things because noobs couldn't do it.
Agents in valorant, do actually determine what utility you get, you fricking mong.
Scout can double jump, spy can disguise, engi buildings, medic literally has an ultimate.
TF2 didn't have weapon selection for years. If OW gave people the ability to switch between two slightly different guns for each character would that suddenly make it a class-based shooter?
No because the game of OW is based around making new characters That's why it's a HERO-shooter.
Compared to OW TF2 shit is mild, but it's all semantics. I do like CS or Quake more than TF in some respects. This is a dumb thing to get caught up on.
I mean yeah OW is a shit game but not because there's magically some difference between the genre classifications or w/e ur coping about, it's just shit execution of the same concept that tf2 did a decade before it.
It is a fundamentally different philosophy though, don't understand what's wrong with saying that. A class based shooter focuses on archetypes, a hero shooter focuses on specific kit at a time. This often leads to shit games, like valorant. Literally just Rock-Paper-Scissors with whatever new flavor of the month hero.

Atleast you can bhop in tf2, can't do shit in OW
Also this is just super Ignant, Heavy can equip so much different shit that completely changes his timings like the Shotgun, GRU, FoS or KGB.
