I've never seen a game flip flop that hard in terms of popularity so fast. As soon as they introduced their seasonal system and nerfs the game shit itself to death and lost most of it's player base. On top of that the bear fricker game came out and made everyone coom in perfect unison.

The game shit itself the moment people began hitting endgame. Lots stuck around for the seasonal content hoping they would fix it. Every season update was immensely disappointing and showed how fricked the game and company were.
Like the limited inventory system was one of everyone's big gripes. Blizzard comes out and says they can't actually do anything about that because the way they built the game made you load the inventory(equipment and STASH) of every player you encountered in the world. Increasing inventory size created too big of a performance hit on the game to allow for bigger inventory. They had this same issue in Diablo 3.
