I genuinely don't understand why anyone but the terminally braindead find jrpgs entertaining, there's no gameplay and you're better off just watching every cutscene on youtube
>I used Firaga and then... I used Firaga again! This game involves so much strategy!
A good JRPG is really difficult and every turn is tense. Building and customizing a party can be a lot of fun if the game has enough cowtools for you to play around with.
If a fight can't go completely to shit because you took a dumb risk or were careless for a single turn then yeah the game your playing is shit. Additionally, if the game constantly puts you into holes you can't dig yourself out of, it's probably shit as well. The SaGa series is the only JRPG series that has been consistently good, IMO.
Darkest Dungeon is actually a really good example of what I mean. It's not exactly the same because characters are disposable and a bad turn can blow up an entire run, but it has high stakes on every turn and strategy is really important.
man looks like another "game" where you navigate menus and watch some animations
does anyone know why these JRPGs are so incredibly menu heavy? You'd think at some point some devs would figure out how to use actual keybindings so you don't need to navigate menus for the literal majority of gameplay and can focus on actually playing the game. But maybe that would just reveal how little "game" there is to these things.
Star rail is a turn-based combat JRPG style game. It's pretty fun for now. It's heavily focused on team building and they get you to care about it by making you clear content in a very limited number of turns so you can't just throw whatever at it. The story and all that started out pretty good, but it's already starting to devolve into the mess that all service oriented games eventually end up with.
I have no idea why they would announce something that isn't coming out for over a year either. Do they think people are going to pick up the game now in anticipation of that?
It's more of grind game than turn base, building in this game plays a lot bigger role than battle choices like if you don't get for firefly good set with decent amount of break, she is useless

This is the fate gacha's "gameplay" timestamp
Fate fans cope that the story of the gacha is good and I have no idea what star rail is

the core fate stuff has a pretty good story, FGO is very mixed which is the gacha stuff.
Star rail is by the Genshin people and is pretty solid if uninspired in places as a turn based RPG

The only turn-based RPG I've found worth playing is Darkest Dungeon 1.
Partly because of this playable character:

Yeah, they have some maps and animations on the main story and some of the larger events so it's not all menus though playlist link
I think they're designed that way so they can bloat out options as the game goes on to give players reasons to stick around.
Edit- found one of the map backgrounds
